Welcome to the Old Countryhouse, one of Christchurch's favourite backpacker accommodation hostels for 15 years.
We invite you to take a walk along our garden path to one of our charming colonial villas with polished wooden floors and hand-made native timber furniture. All our villas have been fully restored and have everything to make your stay with us a memorable one. They are set among landscaped gardens, and have electronic secure access.
Some of the CBD is still closed but the best parts of Christchurch are open and definitely worth a visit. Make sure you see reception for information and bookings on all the best attractions and activities in and around Christchurch. Ask for our Walking Rally taking you through the new and funky places that have popped up all over the city as well as the city sights.

The newly added spa pool & sauna are a big hit with all our guests - and it's free!
Max, our puppy, has just had his first birthday, he now is a big fellow, still keen to play and just loves big cuddles. We will post an updated photo of him shortly.
THE ACCOMMODATION:
Full central heating to keep warm during those cold winter months, Doubles & Twins (with and without private bathrooms) & spacious Dorms - all with firm beds for a good nights sleep. Triple rooms have one double and one single bed. All private rooms have fully made up beds. All bedding is included free of charge in both private rooms and dorms.
RECEPTION HOURS AND CHECK-IN:
During opening hours between 9am and 8pm: Guests may check-in any time after 3pm during reception hours.
ARRIVING OUTSIDE RECEPTION HOURS:
We are delighted to offer a late check in service for guests arriving outside our reception hours. Once we receive your booking with a late arrival time, we will take full payment (plus $3 credit card processing fee) as it is our policy to only send out our Late Arrival Instructions for prepaid accommodation and your booking then can not be changed or transferred.
THE FACILITIES:
Well-equipped kitchens with everything you need to cook up a storm. TV lounge and a separate reading lounge to chill out & other home comforts such as laundry, guest telephone & Internet, off street parking.
FREE WIFI:
WiFi internet is available in all bedrooms and public areas, and you can pick up your FREE $5 WiFi voucher from reception daily to stay in touch with your friends and family on us!
THE GARDEN:
Our spacious garden is landscaped with lots of native plants, fern trees and palm trees and is a wonderful space to relax. Plenty of outdoor seating invites you to sit back and relax with a good book, plan your next adventure, or enjoy a conversation with friends and a glass of wine.
THE LOCATION:
The Old Countryhouse is located on the eastern side of central Christchurch. We have the best of both worlds: close enough to the city to walk easily within 15 minutes, yet right next to local shops and restaurants. There is a supermarket, the best butcher in Christchurch, post office, Subway restaurant, Fish'n Chips, etc. conveniently located just across the road. Two of our favourite Cafe's are just a short 5-10 minute walk as it our favourite pub.
Buses to local beaches, all major shopping malls and city leave directly from our doorstep. Easily accessible from the airport.
THE STAFF:
We are friendly people and keen travellers ourselves. We are looking forward to meeting you and can help with your travel questions and bookings - we have heaps of local knowledge too.
CANCELLATION POLICY:
Guests may change or cancel their booking by email to: theoldcountryhouse@yahoo.co.nz. up to 2 days before date of arrival and no fee will be charged. If cancelled or changed later or in case of no-show, the total price of the reservation will be charged.
Extended cancellation policy for Christmas & New Year Bookings:
Any cancellations must be received by email one week prior to your arrival. Cancellations within one week and failure to arrive will be charged at 100% of your booking. However we will endeavour to re-let your room and if successful there will only be a small admin charge.

ARRIVING OUTSIDE RECEPTION HOURS:
We are delighted to offer an 'after hours' in service. Once we receive your booking with a late arrival time, we will take full payment (plus $3 credit card processing fee) and send you our late arrival instructions by email.
CANCELLATION POLICY:
Any cancellation or modification to your booking must be received by email 48 hours (NZ time). For any modification received within 48 hours or No Show, the total price of the booking will be charged.
EXTENDED CANCELLATION POLICY for Christmas and New Year Bookings:
Any cancellation or modification to your booking must be received by email ONE WEEK PRIOR to your arrival date. For any modification received within one week or No Show, the total price of the booking will be charged.
CHILDREN POLICY:
Regrettably, our property is not suitable for children under the age of 14. Children above 14 must be booked into a private room and be accompanied by parents at all times.
GROUP BOOKINGS:
Bookings for more than 6 guests must be requested through our Group Booking Page and we will send you a quote.
