Laura and Hilde are among the most able and friendly staff I've come across in six months of travelling. I made a mistake in my booking, and instead of leaving me on the street because they had no dorms, they put me in a private room at no extra cost. Hostel is a beautiful setup - a few kitchens, so it never gets too busy, lounges, a free hot spa, and a nice grassy area in the middle to relax if the NZ sun is shining.

We had a spacious room and everything was very clean. Nice and friendly staff and the hostel is not too big. We really enjoyed our stay there.

Nice place. Exceptionally clean and tidy. Nice big kitchen and sitting room areas to use during the day. Good atmosphere within the hostel, not so much outside but that is more a reflection upon the city after the earthquake than the accommodation.

Directly across the road from a supermarket, video rental and Subway restaurant. Lots of character.

Very quaint buildings and garden area, nicely timeless interior, bus stop outside and takes around 20 minutes into town. The hostel is very clean and kitchen is quite well stocked however there is limited fridge space. The central heating is a bit dodgy as one night we we're freezing and the second we hade to open the window to cool down.

Nice hostel, good location and very clean. Could use with more powerpoint plugs in the rooms and unlimited free wi-fi. Otherwise, excellent.

Ok place. Really clean everywhere but there seemed to be a rat or something rummaging in between the walls right next to where I was sleeping which was pretty annoying. A few cracks here and there in the walls which I presume is earthquake damage. Apart from that it was a nice place.

Because the beds are old and of wood and the room is in dark colors it did not look clean and fresh. It was Depressing also the neighbourhood very Depressing. The computer is old did not work. So i have made my way out of it as soon as possible. Such à disappointment compared to for instance Bumbles in queenstown. Go and take à look overthere then you know what i mean .

Hostel is old style with modern facilites, with supermarket and subway down the road. No lockers, but I just left valuables at reception. The heating was stuck on the first night so it was boiling in the room. While I wasn't looking to party, it seemed to lack any sort of atmosphere.

Great hostel. Christchurch is still hurting, but if you're going there (which you should), try to stay at this place.

The overall atmosphere at the old countryhouse was excellent. It had a very inviting feel to it. The kitchens were well kept and big enough for several people to move around with little hassle. It wasn't to noisy, which was good for me at the time. It didn't really have a party feel to it, but that might have just been due to the time at which I was there. I would say that the current rating is pretty spot on. Good times. Thanks for a comfortable stay guys.

Overall a great place but in a lot of ways a bit hit and miss! Security is great... and yet there are no lockers. Most of the staff are awesome, but one was obviously overworked, location is good compared to the lack of alternatives, but there's not much going on except some great cafes nearby...I'd stay there again for sure, but it didn't blow me away.
