Good location, only a few minutes walk to the train station, city centre and Northbridge. Helpful, friendly staff.

Thanks for your comments. We are very conveniently located, only minutes walk to everything you could need, without being on a busy/noisy street. Our staff work hard to provide friendly service, we are glad you found this too. We look forward to seeing you next time! :)

I've stayed in a lot of hostels and this one was easily one of the best I've ever stayed in. Defo wow factor for me. Everything so cosy and convenient. Staff ok 😉

I would recommend Old Swan Barracks to anyone who wants to experience backpackers. Additional barracks memoribilia would enhance the internal atmosphere of the hotel. Flags and outside signage are welcoming to all nationalities. Overall good experience.

A short one night stay, location is well located at north bridge, pretty happening. We were greeted by the friendly staff. facilities need to be upgraded, burn off lamps were not replaced in the room, surrounding need new painting. Kitchen cleanliness need to be well taken care off, as cockroaches were spotted under the kitchen cabinet.

Thanks for your comments. Our hostel is centrally located, only a few minutes walk to the city centre and to the pubs and restaurants in northbridge. Our staff work hard on providing good friendly customer service, and we are pleased that you found this too. The maintenance and cleaning issues mentioned are being looked into, and painting has already began. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Safe travels! :)

Great hostel, only down side which isn't even that bad is the shower heads are fixed at about 175cm so if you're tall you have to bend your head to wash your hair

Thanks for your comments. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us. We are aware of the shower situation and hope to be able to improve this during our next upgrade. :)

It was very quiet with little atmosphere. You get one hour free wifi per day and that only works in the communal area. I've heard this place is better in the high season

Owner Comment (Hide)
Thanks for your comments. It is a little quiet this time of year, we hope this means you have had time to relax from your travels. :)

private rooms were basic but adequate, and double good. Both provided a power point for phone recharge. Staff were obliging. Kitchen was adequate but barely used by me. Lounge areas were good. It was not noisy (my objection to YHA hostels). Location was so good a little flyer map is needed to show all the possibilities for coffee, food, library, museum, city shops within a short largely street free walk.

Showers are not build for people taller than 170 cm. Breakfast is without milk for the cereals, so remember to buy milk yourself around the corner. Everything a bit dated, but it's still value for money.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We are aware of the shower situation, and are looking into improvements during our next upgrade. In order to keep our prices down, we do not provide free milk for breakfast. Free toast and tea/coffee is available. We agree our building is a bit dated - it was built in 1896 and is one of the older buildings in Perth. We think its a beautiful old building, but we understand that continual improvements need to be made. Thanks for your comments

Could be a really nice hostel, unfortunately SOME people of the staff are really unfriendly. Moreover you have to pay 2 dollars to play pingpong or pool. There is only one big light in each room, but you have a locker. Good location but you are not allowed to drink your own alcohol.

Owner Comment (Hide)
Thanks for your comments. We are sorry that your stay was not as you expected. We are surprised that you found some of our staff unfriendly, as we try very hard to provide good customer service. This matter is being looked into. We think $2 is quite a reasonable amount to pay for an afternoon of ping pong. We use this money to maintain our bats/balls. We are centrally located and we do provide lockers in the room - thanks for mentioning this. Safe travels! :)

Good hostel for a bed and a quick shower, not a place to spend time in or to meet anyone

Thanks for your comments. We aim to provide good quality accommodation and customer service. We feel that our communal / bar area is a great place to spend time and meet people. We understand that this time of year is a little quiet, and try to encourage guest interaction through weekly events such as pool competitions, our $3burger night on thursday's, and pizza night on sunday's. We hope to see you again another time. Safe Travels! :)

Excellent Location as it is only a few minutes walk from the CBD and train station. Great social area which makes it easy to meet people. The bathrooms and kitchens are a bit small but clean. The staff were really friendly and helpful in providing info to the local area. Most of the guests are backpackers here which makes it easier to make friends, some of the other hostels Ive stayed at are full of older Australians and it makes it harder to meet people.

Hostel was very noisy, rather filthy, no AC, has not enough showers and toilets and the Wifi is NOT free (you get 1h of Wifi for free per day, but that Wifi is very slow or does not work at all. Proper Wifi is 3AUD/h)

Excellent location! Unfortunately this place needs a good top-to-bottom clean. It's very run-down and has a creepy atmosphere. The beds, carpets, furniture, etc are all decades old. The wifi is only free for the first hour and security is poor. A place like this would go out of business almost instantly Europe.

The establishment has improved a lot in the last two years. The staff seem friendlier. My only real concernis that it is often difficult to get a drink at the bar, You often have to wait there for an inordinate time before a bar person shows up,

My 6 bed dorm room was ridiculously hot. Seems to be a lot of people living there who work in Perth. I spent the majority of my few days in Perth out and about so I luckily never had to put up with it too much. There is no free WiFi, you only get 1 hour per day with your stay. For $30 I did not find this value for money. Having travelled the East Coast, I expected a lot more for $30.

Hi,i did stay only one night at old swan, and the room,a 6beds dorm female only was soooo small that i couldnt even open my backpack proprely. The lockers are way to small for a traveller's backpack! The bathroom! Waaaaw....super dirty, when you take a shower you put water on your towel and clothes, again too small! Really not pratical. The girl (pretty small, long hair, blond ish) was really nice. Anyway,i wont stay at this Backpackers again. And you have to rent everything you for cooking!!
