Me and my three friends stayed there for two nights, and even though we'd booked a four bed dorm, they split us up. My room was very small and dirty, and the air was really stuffy and bad. The kitchen was okay, but the bathrooms were pretty dirty as well. I don't really understand why this hostel has so high rating, but I guess it's good if you want a good location.

on the plus side the staff were good, especially when they had to deal with some idiots running up and down the main hallway drunk at 4am on the down side the facilities are pretty poor even for a backpackers - the showers were awful - basically a dribble of luke warm water running down the wall. The walls are literally paper thin so don't expect a quiet night's sleep either

the Location of the hostel is perfect, the staff friendly. the only thing i didn´t like was the Price. it´s a Little bit to high for this simple Kind of rooms and facilities. the bathrooms also were a way to dirty, but i guess it also depends of the people who use the bathrooms.

Top notch hostel! Really enjoyed my time and will be staying there again. I just recently stayed at Globe Backpackers on Wellington St (just across from the bus station). Can I just say, for the same amount of money you can stay at Old Swan without getting any bed bugs, you'll get clean sheets and a healthy and safe environment. One of the best in Perth.

I made a booking of 5 in a 6-man dorm and they put us into separate room, but then made payment a group booking and didn't know which people were still owing for their stay.

The male manager at the hostel was extremely rude. People sat outside I rooms all the time on their computers. Walls were paper thin. And the showering facilities were very poor. However, our room was super clean with a great bed!

Hostel suited our needs, was in a great location. Only down fall was our room was right across from the Fringe festival and the noise from the front of the hostel was pretty loud and made it hard to sleep. But the hostel itself was above average.

The hostel was big, busy and full of long time stayers who were very cliquey. The staff were friendly and helpful and the hostel was clean. Breakfast was a very poor affair. Cheap White basics bread, cheap marg, two marmalades and cheap cornflakes. No milk provided. Tea and coffee also basics and cheap. No food storage space and no fridge space. Kitchens also get cramped and busy. Communal areas generally clean but chairs by the TV area look very filthy and ripped. Beds are lumpy too.

Hi Mike, Thanks for coming to stay at the Barracks. As breakfast is free we do our best to provide enough for all of our guests. I'm sorry if you didn't find free space in the kitchen, but I can assure you there is always room in one of the two we provide. During meal times kitchens get busy, but you are going to find that in any hostel. Hope the rest of your travels go well. Kind Regards, The Old Swan Barracks Team

Worst place I have ever stayed. Noise level was atrocious. Some of it was bad luck that the Fringe Festival concert was next door, but there was also a regular concert in the common area that could not be avoided. Men's bathroom was routinely disgusting. No way to easily cool a very hot room. Small non-ocillating fan was not enough, and the stapled screens did not allow the windows to close to avoid the heat of the day. Signs that told people how to act civilized should have been a clue.

Only stairs to lead to bedroom floors. Stair cases nice and wide and not too steep. Good rooms, brilliant common room. Location second to none. Enjoyed my stay. Thank you

perfect location, one of the best hostels i have stayed in, very big & spacious place..comfy beds too!

This place is huge and there are quite a number of working holiday makers stay there. The facilities, other than the PC & wifi connection, are shabby. Some refurbishment works should really be taken to uphold the hostel. We found cockroaches in the room and the washroom......honestly, I don't think this is acceptable! The staff there works hard to keep the place clean, yet, much rooms for improvement on cleanliness. I'll not stay at there again.
