This place is huge and there are quite a number of working holiday makers stay there. The facilities, other than the PC & wifi connection, are shabby. Some refurbishment works should really be taken to uphold the hostel. We found cockroaches in the room and the washroom......honestly, I don't think this is acceptable! The staff there works hard to keep the place clean, yet, much rooms for improvement on cleanliness. I'll not stay at there again.

Huge hostel w/ a wide range of travellers: from 18-year old first-time-backpackers to 50-year old explorers. Excellent location: close to the train station, near CAT-stations, and in the heart of Perth's cultural center (good for visiting the Fringe or other festivals around).

common room was very comfortable and clean, as the pub and the kitchen but the bedroom was very dirty and stinky. the kitchens were too small for the amount of people, often there wasn't room for storage the food especially in the fridge/freezer. Also i think that 28 dollars for night/person in a 12 mix dorm is too much because there is no facilities.

too many people compared to the facilities:the kitchen was dirty and always overcrowded and the same was for the bathroms. We slpet for a few days in a double private room that was ok and then in a dorm that was too small for 6 people and it was very hot during the night.Eventhough the hostel has a nice common room and clean sheets, the general atmosphere was not suitable for people who work or try to find work.If you are looking for a messy atmosphere for your holiday it's ok.wifi 3$/h.

Deposit scheme for plates, cutlery etc is a bit unnecessary in my opinion

When the hostel first opened in 2003 they were one of the coolest places to hang, now its all gone a little too PC and are trying to cater for far too many categories... horny drunken students is where they excelled! :) still coming there though after over 8 yrs!

Pros: Great location, huge chill out area, clean kitchen, friendly staff Cons: smelly room, tiny windows which don't open enough, you have to lent kitchen utensils from reception every time you want to cook... also the management must have their own laminating factory, there's not a single square meter of wall without rules on them..... maybe they are overdoing it a bit.

A wifi coverage would be lovely and sockets in the lockers would be safer.

Even though I checked in there at night, the staff was kind to me. I was able to came into my room easily, it got me relaxed. The best of benefits is that this Backpacker has lockers for traveler to keep their belongings. I liked it.

This is probably one of the best hostels in the area but like everything in Australia it's expensive. I don't like the fact they make you pay a lot for the wifi. It is in a good location and kept clean. They offer good value meals and the facilities are good. Probably one of the best hostels I've stayed at in Australia, not that that's saying too much. I would recommend it!

The backpacker location is perfect! However, the bedrooms are very hot. The staff is friendly, but they are not able to recommend anything like if you are in Perth you must do "...". The night atmosphere at common area is boring. No party, no pub crawl! Laundry is expensive!!! The management has to improve!

This hostel is absolutely disgusting! Dirty as hell! This is my major complaint. Expensive for what is it, and no air-con in a city that gets bloody hot is an insult!

Real backpacker feeling but it was just too hot in the room - 36 degree outside, felt like 100 in the room, so nobody could sleep

Its in a great spot, using the hostels wifi is rip off, deposit for dishs and cooking stuff which is fair, common area are big with bar , tv tabletennis pooltable, computers, they do clean tolites and showers every day, atm at front , two min walk from northbridge, staff were really nice all bar one indian guy that worked night shifts, even on christmass day he was an ASS, not any bit helpfull and he was rude, really he was only bad part of hostel

I found the staff inefficient and unfriendly, the hostel itself smelled like sweaty feet and my room was coated in dust - it was gross. Which is strange because there are threatening notices everywhere about helping to keep the hostel clean by moving your bags onto your bed in the daytime because "they would hate to hold your luggage hostage in the store room". The breakfast was poor, no milk but they do provide cereal...what's the point? I wouldn't stay here again.
