Stayed in Private Room with toilet and shower, located next to the dining/meeting area. Staff was fairly good at policing the 10 PM curfew for the dining/meeting area. There is a full kitchen, but many people use it. Private room had cable TV, coffee maker, refrig, safe and fan. Good location in Kings Cross, close to the Metro. Also, hourly van service to/from the Airport. Good place to meet other travelers.

We arrived at 10 pm and then there was a full party going on (could add that it was a Monday) Drunk kids running around, not really my cup of tea. The guy receiving us was nice though and showed us to our room, stayed in the private room so can't say much about the dorms except the sounds of party could be heard to the reception. We left the day after so didn't really see much of the place, but there're better hostels in town for the not-partying-all-nighters.

Arrived at 10 pm and checked out at 10am so not much time to judge a hostel.Perhaps if you are calling backpackers "kids" you are too old to know the difference between a good and bad hostel. We are quiet at night and have 24 hour reception to make sure guests get a good nights sleep-see other reviews!(Could add it was the Easter Monday public holiday.)

This a kids hostel, not a place to rest after a flight. Although, it's well located, staff is alright but it's pretty noisy.

First time in a hostel and it was a good experience. Friendly staff, social environment and it was clean which is the most important thing. The curfew was a good and bad but I can appreciate why they do it. The only thing I'd point out was that there was a lot of German tourists (not in any way a bad thing) but they tended to stick together making it a bit daunting to get talking to people. Not in any way the hostels fault but just an FYI. All together, good first hostel stay.

All good apart from someone stealing my hat!

The room and place as a whole seemed unclean. The rooms didn't seem very secure either and were small. The kitchen was small and so were the bathrooms. If someone was in the shower for a long time, the whole bathroom was taken up and occupied.

This guest checked in at midnight and checked out at 6 o'çlock the next morning'.The kitchen is big, modern and well equipted, but is closed between 10 pm and 6am.This guest found the little night kitchen where guests can make toast and have free tea or coffee late at night. The dorms have very good locks and all dorms have modern lockers with padlocks for phones, passports, wallets etc.Reception is open 24 hours for extra security. Its a great hostel!

I stayed in the 10-bed female dorm. There was a fridge and table and chairs in the room, which encouraged people to make meals in the room, and sit up talking and drinking until all hours of the night. As a result, I had a very poor sleep in this hostel, and was constantly forced to ask people to be quiet, turn off the light, stop making noise, etc, which is extremely uncomfortable. Hostel dorms should be made for sleeping, not for partying. The room was extremely expensive for what I got back.

This has been a very friendly female dorm for years and this girl was the odd one out. They do not party into the night and most guests don't want to go to bed at 8pm.

The Original Backpackers is a very good hostel. Room was clean, atmosphere was great and the staff were helpful and nice. The only bad thing was that the bathrooms got quite dirty during the day, but that was of course other guests' fault. The kitchen was quite small so cooking between 6-8 pm was a struggle with so many people but we managed. There were lockers and refrigerators in all rooms. Good location, only 2 minutea walk from the subway. I even extended my stay here.

Small but nice hostel, well located in Sydney. The staff was friendly and helpful. The kitchen was very small. The rooms instead very big. Most of the other guests were very young (18-22) and came from Germany or France. I stayed there just one night and explored the city by myself. Perfect hostel for that.

We also stayed at a YHA in Sydney and this place is much nicer. Down a nice little street in kings cross but still just a few mins from the metro. Nice common areas. Staff were a bit hit and miss. Bed wasn't the best but we enjoyed our stay.

Original backpackers was a very good choice. Kings Cross is a very nice areas, in particular victoria street, were you can find many pubs and night life, plus pitt and custom street are reachable on foot in minutes. The hostel has a very cheap deal with shuttle from and to the airport plus the staff was very kind and helpful. The hostel can organize many activities and tour for you while in sydney, all important facilities are provided (wifi is limited but fixed computers are available).

Stayed over the holidays and really enjoyed the location. Rooms were sparse but functional - good for acting as a home base while exploring the city. New Kings Cross quiet laws were pretty well enforced but easy to get to other bars/restaurants. Would have appreciated a few more amenities and staff helpfulness, but overall satisfied with the experience.

yes, many party teens or working young people there, so it's not easy to get contact as a single traveller. but the hostel itself has great atmosphere, very friendly and helpful staff and everything is, like it should be. superb!
