We had a great stay at this hostel. It may not be right on the main strip of attractions but it is no more than a 20 minute walk from the main attractions of Sydney. The room we stayed in was extremely clean and spacious, but a little chilly. Everyone was helpful and friendly. I would recommend this hostel to a friend.

Absolutely amazing! I extended my initial stay for a few days until I had to move on with my trip. Really great people, super friendly and helpful staff and the social area/courtyard was great. Will be staying here when I get back to sydney for sure.

The Original Backpackers is located in Kings Cross- a lovely 20-30min walk around the Botanic Gardens to the Opera House. Our double room had everything we needed and was comfortable enough. It overlooked the courtyard which could be a little noisy in the evening but quietened down by 11pm on. Kitchen was fully equipped and staff were welcoming and allowed us to shower, etc, even though we arrived before our room was ready. Pick up from airport was straightforward. Would stay again.

We got all the value for our money staying there. As for the staff, always helpful , ready to answer our questions and giving the best advice.

Great place to stay in Sydney. Would definitely stay here again. Only downside is there are quite a few longterm residents that lack basic form of social skills unless intoxicated. There are more than enough other social residents as well though.

Everything was great, great room, great staff, fine location, only one thing that bugged me - no soap in the bathroom.

Friendly and helpful staff - 24 hour reception, airport shuttle, after-checkout baggage locker and friday bbq were especially good! Our room was also great - clean, comfortable and quiet.

It's good for young people who want social life. We as a mature couple feel it's a bit nosy (actually very nosy before 10pm when people group around the courtyard and celebrate everyday).

I liked the hostel as its quite charming in the old building and because the free airport pick up is a big advantage. The atmosphere is quite good. Location at Kings Cross is really good, but not too noisy. Only downside is that the toilets and rooms could be a little bit cleaner.

I love this place. All of the staff are top drawer and they always seem to be wearing a nice smile. It's constantly being cleaned and the kitchen is fully loaded. The location is spot on and there is always something going down. What more could you ask for?

PROs: friendly and helpful staff, free towels, 1h free internet if booked via hostelworld.com CONs: dirty and much too small (!) kitchen, ants in the rooms, only few bathrooms (2 per floor, always occupied) This hostel is dnot worth the money and wouldn't stay there again! Nothing was done against the ants when we told the reception twice - they say it's a continuous problem.....

We stayed at The Original Backpackers two times, and both times we were happy about it. One thing we remarked is, that the place became quiet at 10 every evening even though there had been a lot of talking and singing a couple of minutes before. If we are ever going to Sydney again, we are going to stay at this place again.

PROS: Location was okay. Many bars and restaurants around the area / within walking distance to many sites. Staff was really friendly and helpful. Common areas make it easy to meet new people. CONS: Stayed in the double private room. No air conditioning, so had to keep windows open. Streets and common areas made it loud so it was hard to sleep. Shower had no ledge to break it from regular floor, so water was all over bathroom. Bed was broken so it was very uncomfortable. Not the cleanest either.
