I nice place with very helpful staff, but a little difficult to find if you\'re driving a car without GPS. However the staff (shout out to Josh!) are great about helping you get there. Beds are super comfortable and rooms are air conditioned. Location is ideal. Old San Juan is just a 10 minute, 50-cent bus ride away. Only stayed for one night, but would definitely book here again if heading back to San Juan.

This was my first time staying at a hostel and I had a great experience. Everyone was extremely laid-back, friendly, and easy-going. The bed was very comfortable, AC in the room worked well, and all the other guests were very respectful. There are lockers available but most people felt comfortable enough to leave their phones and laptops charging out in the open, if that says anything about the environment there.

A wonderful place to stay! A really fun location that's centrally located to everything I wanted, and I appreciated the free breakfast - it was great! I would definitely go back!

If you want a fun place to stay, look no further. The staff here rock- they plan events (bartours, toga beach night) & actually remember your name. Location is ok, 20 min walk to the beach, a bit longer hike to Old San Juan (hint: take the bus). Neighborhood is residential, a few blocks nearby feel a bit dicey at night, but the hostel never felt unsafe. Mattress was comfy. Downsides: small rooms and there are only 2 showers, so queues occasionally form. Oh, ask about dramatic chicken (trust me).

room was clean and place was in a great location. Staff were helpful if not some what low key, had a very casual feel and we were not expecting more. Unlike some of the reviews the bathroom and room were acceptable size and we enjoyed our stay!

Don\'t bother looking for any other place to stay in San Juan. DON\'T! You want a hostel? Your search ends here. If you cannot have fun at the Palace - then you must be a corpse. Even if you are one, your body will be adequately dressed in a toga and fed bananas.

I would recommend this place for its atmosphere and staff, but unfortunately i'm rating very poorly the place itself. I feel that the owners of the place can do something to have suitable showers, a better breakfast option and lockers for all the guests. For the amount of money that guests pay, its shameful to not have these things fixed as other guests have noted.

Owner Comment (Show)
The showers are brand new, we have security lockers under 24 hr survelince, and a decent breakfast for $20 a night! Perhaps this is a guest that has not stayed at the other hostels that offer no AC, bad mattresses and no breakfast for the same price?

This hostel is a good cheap alternative for accommodation in a very expensive resort town. Easy to get to old San juan by bus from hostel and good supermarket nearby. There is a 24hr taxi shop across the road which is great for getting to the airport. Kitchen is just a microwave and two portable hot plates. Breakfast is very average. They let people sleep on their couch if they have no beds left which is nice, sometime as a backpacker you just have no other option :) cash only.

The Palace Hostel is a brand new hostel opened up late October 2011 by an American entrepreneur from Dallas, Texas. The owner opened up the hostel because he recognized that San Juan, Puerto Rico has very few hostels available for American tourist. The facilities and rooms are very well equipped. Rooms are very large and they are have wifi available. The hostel also provides free breakfast. Overall, I would recommend this new hostel to any tourist visiting San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Staff were very helpful, especially in advising how to catch public transport around San Juan. Great value accomodation. Good breakfast. Would recommend people to stay here.

My first stay in a hostel! Bit concerned about staying in a mixed dorm room, but everyone was very considerate. Lots of camaraderie between the guests. Only \'complaint\': bunk beds very close together in a small bedroom. Plenty of bathrooms and even a small breakfast provided. Free parking on the neighborhood street right outside. Not too far to walk to restaurants/groceries. Tricky to find the place with all the one-way streets, but not impossible.

This is one of the most social hostels I've ever stayed at. Everyone was friendly, but still chill and it wasn't too much of a party hostel for my more relaxed style. As a solo traveler I had no trouble meeting lots of people to hang out with. My only complaint is that the place was a little bit too smoker-friendly from my non-smoker perspective. Still though, an amazing hostel. I had a great time!

What makes this place so great is the staff. Shannon and the rest of them were fantastic. For the most part they know the area really well and can help you out with getting around San Juan or going elsewhere. Everything was clean and the rooms were really nice. Even the beds were comfier than my college dorm bed. I only wish it was closer to a beach, but walking isn't too bad, and if you take Brittany with you she'll show you how to drink straight from coconuts too!
