We were very happy with our accommodations at The Phoenix. Very near the Metro and walking distance from The Bund. Very good dumplings served in the hostel restaurant and uber cool miniature set of the Terra Cotta Warriors beneath the glass floor. Loved it!!!

Lots going on nearby, about a 30 minute walk to the Bund, 20 to the temple and fun touristy shopping there. Cafe downstairs that's open to the public. Rooftop bar is a great way to end the night, and this spot is better for meeting people at the hostel. The rooms were clean, private ones had toilet & shower separated by glass enclosures - not the best if you're not comfortable being nude around your roommate. The dorms had fully enclosed (normal) bathrooms and large lockers for each person.

Pretty straightforward place: decent location within 10 minutes of People's Square station & East Nanking Road, nice rooms, pleasant rooftop bar, generally clean (though there was a pube on our bed when we got into the room, yuk). Front desk staff wasn't rude, but did the bare minimum in terms of customer service. (Although the guy at the bar the one day we went was very friendly.) No serious complaints, no glowing endorsements either.

Take twin room if you are traveling together instead of double. The bed is big enough for two and twin room is much bigger that a double. A lot of place to have breakfast/lunch/dinner nearby, small supermarket next building. 3 minutes from metro Nice but pretty expensive bar upstairs Everything was good Windows didn't lock so it was pretty easy to get into the room from next room. We didn't leave our valuables there

Stayed in 8 bed dorm which was very spacious, clean and had large lockers to store your belongings in. Each of the beds had a powerpoint and light making it very easy to read or plug in. Front desk staff were ok. They weren't too keen to provide advice about Beijing and actually refused to call us a cab when we needed one. On the roof is a really cool cafe/bar/hangout zone with very friendly staff who are very helpful and engaging. Wifi works all over the hostel. Overall a great stay.

Nice hostel, clean and located just next to a metro station. People's square is also less than 10 minutes away. Great value for money.

The location of this hostel is absolutely ideal - about a 2 minute walk (or less) from the subway station on a cute little street with a lot of restaurants. The rooms and the general setup of the hostel is very people friendly and extremely attractive - the rooms are filled with large wooden beds and a beautiful marble bathroom. I was also blown away by the amazing view on the balcony. The staff were curt and polite but didn't strike me as particularly friendly/involved.

The internet in the hostel went down about every 20 minutes. The staff had no idea how to fix it and I probably had to make 20+ calls to the front desk over the course of a few days each time the internet crashed. They don't seem interested in actually helping you fix the problem.

The hostel is very close to the subway which can connect you to most areas around Shanghai. Also many authentic cheap Chinese resturants close by to eat at. Friendly staff. Twin en-suite room seemed new (newly renovated) and great value for money. Slight smell from bathroom drain but otherwise great room! Rooftop bar also good value and nice place to relax. Overall, very happy. Would definately stay here again.

Excellent location close to two major subway lines and great instructions of how to reach the hostels from both. Rooms were very comfortable with wonderful big beds! Staff were very helpful and spoke good enough English to communicate. The bar upstairs served both breakfast and helped with things like posting postcards with the downstairs restaurant serving a range of reasonably priced foods with an english picture menu - very convenient. Overall, a wonderful stay!

Great hostel in great location, with lots of food nearby and two subway lines in walking distance. My dorm room had been renovated recently and was absolutely spotless. Everyone gets a key card. The wifi worked as well as wifi works in China. The breakfast sandwiches were pretty good. My only complaint is that there's no large air conditioned common space, so you just have to hang out in your room, until it cools off enough to enjoy the rooftop bar.

Construction at Pheonix is done and the place is very clean (no cockroaches). It's located right next to Dashije train station and a 20min walk to the bund ferry entrance (just taxi or mtr it). The street it's on is lively and has great street food. Weekends are a bit loud. Staff speaks English well.

We were 4 friends (female and male), imagine our surprise when the 2 rooms we had booked had see-through toilet walls.. We had to send one out in the hall every time the other needed to go on the toilet. The restaurant downstairs is good, the staff is helpful (the guy checked like 87618 different shows for us to find one that was available), and the bar tender is sociable. The dorms were ok and the private rooms was hotel standard (a huge negative to the bathrooms!) and they looked brand new!

Located right next to Dashije train station, but not really walking distance from the main area of the Bund (like the Star Ferry starting point). It is located in a lively street with delicious street food/restaurants. This place is no longer under construction and is now clean (no cockroaches). Stayed 3 nights in a dorm on 3rd floor which was a bit loud during weekend. Staff speaks GREAT english, but conveniently forget to return my key deposit. Definitely recommend it.

Exceptional location, easy to get to. Friendly and helpful staff. Good base for exploring the city. Not a particularly sociable hostel by global standards. Relatively spartan rooms but comparable to most hostels.

it was a very nice, clean and comfortable place to stay, close to the subway. I loved the bar on the roof, it's amazing to spend some time there in the evening. Plus they have a very good breakfast. The only issue was that there weren't any lockers in the room. Still I totally recommend it.
