Police walking around the building all the time with no explanation. Bad and dangerous area of the city. Staff were not too bad as far as cheap hotels go but not friendly and cheerful. Bathrooms awkward and few. Rooms very budget but clean enough. No atmosphere or friendliness. Should be a lot cheaper for its lack of facilities. Didn't go for the breakfast in the morning as some girl that looked like she was on heroin kept walking in and out of there and the police were in about some hooker…...

Friendly staff. Good stay for a reasonably priced place in the city. Located near public transportation. Neighborhood is a bit rough after dark but had no problems just stay alert.

The staff were amongst the friendliest and most courteous I encountered in the whole of my trip across Cali. The bed was comfy and the room was private enough, although a piece of blind was missing from the window. Wifi Internet worked well in the room, TV was neat and well set up. The room also had lots of storage. The shared bathrooms were probably this hotel's biggest let down as I failed to get hot water through in one shower, then found the second shower too hot! Not a bad stay, overall.

The staff were friendly. The area was pretty cool, there a lot of homeless people chilling outside but they were pretty friendly and nice. The only issue I really had was that it was very noisy out in the street until about 3am.

Please check the bed before sleeping - there are bed bugs in this hotel! Very unsafe location!

The hotel is ok for the money, but the location is not secure, one of the nights 2 turist got attack and one was stabbed just one block away. At night endup paying a taxi to drop me in front of the hotel and even taxi drivers were warning me about the area wasnt safe.

Scary neibourhood, but just few steps from the center, for an attractive price. The stuff was nice.

Terrible location. Really is. But, the hotel itself is ok. You get what you pay for. No real complaints about that.

Unfortunately we were unaware that we had booked into a hotel in such an unsafe area, with the streets immediately around (mission and 6th in particular) full of drug dealers, prostitutes and loud noise all day and night. Our room was hot and stuffy (no fan) and we were unable to sleep with the window open - our room did not face the main street, but an alleyway with a loud ventilation fan that started up early morning. I would not recommend travelers stay here or in this area at all.

If the guest had requested we could have found them a room that they would possibly find more satisfying. Though it's not the nicest area of San Francisco I wouldn't call it as unsafe as being downtown in any other american city.

:-) the staff at receprion was very nice. there was a nice breakfast and plenty of food! i was there on weekends and it was quiet all night long. :-( there was no need for a (loud) tv in the breakfast room (i turned it off), and a loud and long talking guy next to the breakfast room behind the door. since guest like to eat and use wifi in that room. bath (shower) on 4th floor was full of black hair. and no utensils to get rid of em. i woud go back there, reasonable price, freindly staff, thanks

Good hotel very central located in SF. 6th street is some what an experience and maybe not for my parents, but we loved it never the less! Good, complimentary breakfast in a fine setting where you get to meet other guests. Would definetly stay there again should it come to that an other time.

My wife and I stayed here six nights. The place is centrally located and close to public transport, including BART - thus, getting to anywhere in the city is easy. The hotel itself is ok - could be a little cleaner, but it's not a big issue.

At least it was nicely situated. The rest is really nothing special at all.

Cheap and well located in heart of downtown, but full of weird people (drugged, prostitute...)at night, the district may be not so safe for girls alone. the bathrooms are...take your flip flop. and the wifi is only accessible at the front desk, not in the room (there are only 2chairs). no fun in this place, just go there if you just need to sleep, nothing more. However, there is a nice breakfast in the morning.

We also have wifi in our lounge area, where lots of chairs and tables are available. We are working on widening the wifi range through the rest of the building. Currently much of the third floor is able to receive a weak to moderate signal, but we still currently advertise our free WiFi as being available in our lobby and lounge.

The free breakfast and internet were great and the staff were always helpful and polite. Our room smelled a little bit, and some of the bathrooms could have been cleaner, but overall a great bargain. Would definitely stay again.

The short walk to union square, the spotless rooms/bathrooms and the dude with the neat fedora who worked reception in the afternoon were the only redeeming qualities of this hotel/hostel.

this is a nice hotel, its close to the malls and union square, the room was clean, the share bathrooms were always clean. there are definitely a lot of local people/characters who stay here, perhaps because it is inexpensive, i found it convenient and adequate for a few good nights, Kyle on reception was really helpful and friendly.

the hostel is located in a gritty area of the cbd, hallways smell like weed, room was clean , stafff were helpful, wifi didn't work for my computer

To the price, this hotel is perfect! Don't expect anything but an ok place to sleep. Small rooms, shared bath and toilets, wifi (but only in the common dining room), and a very simple breakfast. The area might not be safe at night so grab a cab the last blocks.
