Great hostel to use as a base for skiing out of Fernie. Mattresses were a bit uncomfortable, but it had an awesome bar underneath for après-ski. Had a great time there.

Would have been nice to have a small bar of soap provided in the ensuite room.

I would highly recommend this hostel to anyone staying in Fernie. The staff went out of their way to make my stay as fun and relaxing as possible, and pints at the lounge are only 3.50! Just make sure you don't ring the bell... - Ian Cameron

I felt like an old fart amongst a bunch of 20 somethings. It was fun though. I just wanted a clean and comfortable place to sleep for the night before skiing at Fernie. The bed was comfortable and the room was very clean. All in all, I'd do it again. It was like going away to camp and staying in a cabin.

The showers smell like urine and the hostel smells like old man. Watch out for the short chick with red hair at the bar, she won't hold her shout at the bar!

I had a great stay in Fernie and I love the convenient location of the hostel. There are a few minor maintenance issues that should be looked at such as broken toilet paper dispensers and finicky lockers under the bunks. The manageresses and pillows aren't terribly comfortable. That said, I'll certainly be back because you can't been the snow at FAR and can't beat the price at the Raging Elk.

Its a fun place and great security. Everything is locked which is awesome. The hostel had great character...the decorations were awesome and the lounge was massive. There's also a bar in the hostel which was cool. The only thing that I thought could use some work is the cleanliness of the rooms. We had towels with stains on them and the showers didn't look like they were cleaned. Another small minor change that would make a difference is having the beds.made for the first night guests arrive

+ sides: good location in town, super friendly and fun staff, relaxed and fun bar in hostel, clean, good kitchen, sweet common hang out rooms (tv, pool tables, benches, couches), delicious pancakes for breakfast Less + sides: unable to control heat in room (blazing temps), thin walls, no soap in bathroom

There is only one hostel in Fernie, and I think this must be why they have been able to get away with overcharging, and not investing any money into the kitchen for years. All kitchen supplies were in short supply, damaged, dirty or flat out non-existent.

This is a great place to stay for the price! Some of the bed's mattresses aren't all that comfortable, most of them are fine. The security for locking your stuff up under the bed isn't the best because you could lift the mattress and you could grab small items through the 4" gaps in the frame lattice, so keep your small stuff in your bag. This might be different in some of the rooms, I was in one of the 8 person dorms. The facilities are awesome! Pub, sauna, lounge, foosball, pool, tv room!!

We managed to get this waived, but the hostel tries to charge you 4% for every debit/credit transaction. The fee the bank charges them is a fixed fee regardless of the amount of the transaction, and it's around $0.50, not 4% of your nightly rate! Be mindful of this. Windows in the rooms can be easily broken into - should have locks on them. No towels provided. Kitchen is pretty well-equipped, and there is a free pancake breakfast every morning. Otherwise, this place is pretty sweet.

Poor quality room; unfinished bathroom -an "overflow suite"? Room no. 27. 2 nights in that room and had a second booking for the third night in regular room. Major improvement.

Such a great hostel. Loved the kitchen and hang-out rooms. Couldn't have a beer with our dinner in the kitchen area but the bar upstairs was great and it had cheap beer. The room we stayed in was very clean, as was the rest of the hostel. One complaint was that one of my friends wanted to cook lunch just before noon and the kitchen was closed for cleaning. We thought it was kind of an odd time to close the kitchen. Overall, this hostel was great and I would definitely stay there again.
