A real party hostel, loud all night and sound carried throughout the hostel, even just doors slamming and people talking. If you're looking for a quiet weekend away this isn't the place for you! The free wifi was a joke, most of the time it wouldn't connect or ran so slowly it took 5 minutes to load one page. Some of the staff were rude and unhelpful too. The room was comfortable enough and the location good -opposite tram stop to city and 10mins walk from St Kilda shops. Free breakfast a bonus!

Favorite hostel in Melbourne! Its very clean, they have real, thick blankets (and not those thin fleece blankets, where you always freeze your ass off), pancakes every morning (but unfortunately nothing else to eat).. Best atmosphere, nice staff and free wifi! :)

awful place to stay. drunk morons running around shouting and screaming at 3 in the morning. lots of people staying long term who think they own the place, plus the staff are all friends with them so they can be as idiotic as they like. a total of 4 pans in the kitchen to use while you try to avoid all the filth. no internet in rooms and a terrible connection when in the common areas. bathrooms were the only positive thing the showers are good. location is ok a short walk from st kilda shops.

Had a problem with stolen purse whilst out, not at hostel. Even so staff were very unsuportive and unhelpful verging on rude.

It was ok but just a place to go to sleep to at night, didnt feel like an inviting place to hang out or chill. The smell of the kitchen goes in the rooms and internet connection was awful. Had read that there was wifi in the rooms which was not true at all, just available in the common lounge and still with difficulties. Location is great though and so are the prices if you consider that. I stayed at a private room and the bed was awful, you could feel every spring of the matress!!!

Really good location in that you're only a 20/30minute tram away from the city. Beds are very comfortable and even though there isn't a toilet per room, there was never a que for the shower in the morning. Be warned though, it really is a party hostel. People start at 3pm and blare music until the early hours! It's great if you take part, but not so great if you have work in the morning.

All in all the hostel was ok. but unfortunately it was very loud at night ! no 11 o'clock silence. not because of the pub but because of the fellow guests and the tv in the common room.

Most of the staff very helpful. Great pancakes in the morning (thanks Marie!). Short walk to the beach and the Grand Prix track. Could have been a bit cleaner here and there but overall OK. Bit pricey for a 'budget' hostel and the price was elevated for Grand Prix weekend too. Friendly place with lots going on. Bit noisy as it is above a pub with live music on until all hours! Take some earplugs!

This hostel was clean and the staff was very service minded and helpful. On the weekend it was a bit loud, and there was no air condition so the room got pretty warm, but over all i had a really pleasant visit at this hostel and would definitely recommend it.

The location is above a bar and the music continued until 3am; not just ‘thump thump’ of bass, it was so loud I could identify every song being played. Following the music stopping other guests were running around shouting and general being noisy banging doors etc. I've rated cleanliness low, the toilets were clean and the room generally appeared to be, but the rating is due finding a bed bug in the bed during the night which when squashed splattered a good amount of (my) blood

The Ritz is mint! I originally planned to only stay for two weeks but 10months on and I'm still here! Over the time I have been here, they have been renovating quite a few things and keeping it up to scratch as well as keeping it tidy and clean all the time. The showers are amazing and stay hot! :) I have made some of the best friends here! Definitely reccomend to any social travellers :)

The best hostel I've found in Australia, the Ritz is awesome! A great atmosphere, friendly staff, free wifi and really clean. It's small enough so that everyone gets to know each other fast.. like a big family, but big enough so that there are always people around to chat to, watch a film or have a beer with. The free pancakes at breakfast are amazing and Cheese & wine night is always gets crazy!!

I stayed at a lot of backpackers in Australia and The Ritz is definitely the best one. The interior is lovely and CLEAN ( which is rare in some other backpackers!), the staff are nice and helpful, and the facilities are good… free pancakes and free wifi are really good point!! It's a small backpacker, who make you feel at home easily, it's like a big family where you are always welcome! If you want to have fun go there for a good party, a good laugh, and good friends are guarenteed!

The staff is really nice and the position is great because close to the St Kilda beach anyway the place is not so clean especially regarding the bathrooms...
