We booked a double room and got a twin. The hostel had no toilet paper for most of the time we were there. We still had the dirty sheets from the previous people on the ground in our room. There were no staff onsite dispute being introduced to the "onsite" manager on arrival. She was never there so we could not complain about the toilet paper. Infact there was nobody onsite to pay when we left....

After we arrived as settled ourselves in we were made to feel extremely uncomfortable by the hostels current tenants. They talked about us in their language which we knew they were because we heard the word "masterton" in their conversation. They never talked to us and infact every time we entered a room we were greeted by awkward silence. On one occasion we headed to the communal lounge and as we got closer someone looked at us then said "quick shut the door". The door them slammed in our face

Really weird hostel... You arrive and first of all it's hard to find the door, and then no ringbell you have to call a phone number (if someone answer you're lucky). then I met someone who was staying at the hostel so he opened the door to me. But inside there's no staff, it's the people living here who are "managing". anyway other than that the hostel is okay, clean, and really well located. It's enough for a short stay.

When i arrived the hostel was closed. I went back 3 times and knocked on The door and called the hostel but nobody replied. Late in the evening they called me were i was (5 hours after arriving time). i walked 1,5 hour and finnaly get a place to stay in an other hostel. So i said that i found another place cause their hostel was closed. The next day the owner brought my money back, but still i wouldn't recommend it...

This hostel is what it is-great! its def different to others and not so sterile and commerical. Hastings is boring so the people in the Hostel were good freinds and we had lots of fun nights :) The description and info on the site is true to form and we had a blast and will be coming back to stay on our way back from the South Island.

This is a small and homy hostel so you quickly get too know your new friends which for me is the most important part with hostel life. The manegmant keep the place tidy and will gladly help you out if your looking for a job. Good location with all you need just a short stroll away. Hastings isn't the most exiting place but with a good attitude you will still have a good time. Watch a movie, try too beat me in Fifa, play a game of card, learn Spanish, work on you tan, drive to the beach..

I couldnt find the (near invisible) door between the Subway and another shop, no signs, just a phone num. on said door To my surprise as I was calling them (door locked, no bell in sight) I receive a TEXT saying "By the way your accomodation changed! :) follow these instructions to find your new room..." The other place, a few blocks away is very little more than an abandoned beauty saloon fitted with beds 2 showers for about 15 guests and 1 have no doors just a plastic curtain, good for voyeurs

You can't beat the price here, but Sleepy Sheepz is the epitome of "you get what you pay for." The managers were nice people but clearly not too concerned about their job. The common area was a mess and the refrigerator would not close because it was bursting with food...most of which seemed to be old and unused. The majority of the guests were local fruit pickers who got up every morning around 630 to get ready for work. They were loud both mornings we stayed and blasted music.
