It is a very charming hostel in the city centre. We had a twin room which was great. Highly recommend this hostel.

Communal area was ace with a spa and BBQ, met some ace people there. In a very convenient place for the ferry, bus, train and town centre. Security wasn't great but that wasn't a major problem.

This hostel was great! It gives a hippie-commune feel, which is fun. Spent most of my time up in the tree house! The worst part of the hostel is the flies! They are everywhere, and so many! In the room, you can't escape them. Beyond that, it was wonderful!

Location is good. There are tons of flies in the kitchen. Some of the staff members are new and not that helpful. It's a beautiful hostel with a very pretty garden though.

Staff was so friendly and helpful. Beautiful space with lots of plants and nice landscaping. Comfy bunks in crowded rooms. Close to the ferry and the shops. Best thing about this place was the hottub!

The hostel has a nice backyard and is quite near the terminal. There is not enough bathrooms for all the guest, since it is really busy all the time.

Fantastic hostel! Lovely, helpful staff. Great location! An excellent place to stay if you need help and advice with the Queen Charlotte track, they will also book it for you at a cheaper rate!

A friendly, relaxed backpackers with good facilities. However, the bedroom walls were very thin, so when people started packing their bags at 5.30am in the morning and then others began talking in the kitchen from about 6am it was impossible to sleep.

I thought this hostel was brilliant, excactly the place you want to stay after crossing on the ferry from the north island. The facilities are top notch and clean. The staff are really friendly and cannot do enough for you. I hope to return to villa backpackers when I start making my way back north.

the staff at the large is super friendly and the facilities are really nice with more than one kitchen and eating areas, both inside and out, as well as a generally cool atmosphere and good people

Too many people for too little space, cleanlyness below expectations. Run down facilities.

A lovely place, I liked that they kept the original style when renovating to make it a hostel. The beds didn't have rails on the top bunks, though! Very scary, and kept me nervous a lot of the night.
