Property Description

Thorney How is a four-star quality independent hostel in Grasmere, the heart of the English Lake District World Heritage Site. We are a rurally located property providing a quieter base from which to explore the outstanding beautiful scenery and local attractions, on foot, by bike, by public transport or car.

Our property is a family-owned and operated traditional Lakeland residence with private grounds.

We are currently offering standard bed spaces in our refurbished Bunk House. These are all 4 person rooms, with bunk beds and all linen provided. You may book either as whole rooms or as individual beds in single sex rooms. Modern shared unisex showers and toilets are provided with underfloor heating.

Users of the Bunk House will be able to access all our other main house facilities such as dining room / bar / lounge / guests kitchen / drying room / free wifi etc.

Once your booking has been confirmed you can additionally order breakfast, lunch or evening meals.

You will need to bring your own towels, or you can hire a towel for an additional charge.

We also have film nights, mountain bike hire and electric car charging points - see our website for details.

Experience our tranquil setting with easy access to magnificent scenery, mountain walks, cycling and the cultural centre of Grasmere. This is not a location for night time entertainments and we ask all guests to respect a quiet curfew from 11.30pm. Our guest kitchen will also be closed at 11pm.

Thorney How is strictly non smoking and no vaping including the grounds.

Thorney How is fully licensed with it's own bar serving local draught real ales, good wines and spirits. We ask all guests to not bring their own alcohol to Thorney How.

Check in is 3.30 pm to 10.30pm - We do not accept check-ins after 10.30pm if you think that you will not be able to arrive until later than this we recommend that you book elsewhere for your accommodation.

Check out is 7.30 am to 10.30am - All guests must leave the building at 10.30am

The hostel and all facilities will be fully closed to all guests with no access to their rooms outside of these times during the day between 10.30am and 3.30pm.

Latest Review

" Loved my stay here & would definitely recommend it! Very clean, great facilities & very secure & safe. It's about 15 min walk from centre, in very peaceful/beautiful area. Homey, comforting atmosphere, felt more like a B&B than hostel. The guest kitchen closes at 10am & you can't access any facilities from 10:30-15:30 but hardly noticed as I was out enjoying the beautiful Lake District! "
