Great hostel, well run and clean. Nice quiet vibe (in April at least). The signs everywhere feel like a bit much though. Closing the lounge/kitchen area at 10:30 is way too early, midnight would be a little more appropriate. Free tea & coffee facilities is definitely a winner!

Owner Comment (Show)
A closing time of midnight for the kitchen may seem "appropriate" to the guest however others surveyed have requested 10pm is more appropriate. If we could guarantee 100% that no-one will leave cooking unattended and expect everyone to walk on tiptoes and not speak a word after 10.30pm - it would be fair to leave the kitchen open. This is not realistic, therefore to meet our insurance requirements and to keep other guests happy, the kitchen is closed at 10.30pm - our TV room is open 24hrs with microwave, tea/coffee and kitchen sink etc. I'm not sure which signs guest refers to. There is a lot of signage in the kitchen to assist with recycling etc - all other signage is informational and relevant to guests. A lack of signs would be more concerning..

Tiki is a lovely family run hostel which is not too big,Close enough to town to be away from the hustle and bustle, The staff are friendly and most of them live on site so they make sure it is kept clean and have lots of local advice. The only down side are the showers and toilets being in the same place other than that, a great place to stay with lovely balcony views of the lake and mountain.

A well-run backpackers which felt more like a family home than a hotel, and definitely not a party pit. Clean and comfortable, with tea/coffee being an appreciated gesture. The only possible pitfall was that food storage space (both fridge and shelf) was at a bit of a premium even though there weren't a heap of guests, but to be fair, too, a few people did have enough stuff to feed a small army, and this certainly shouldn't put anyone off booking in to enjoy the location and views!

Stayed in the summer seasion. Found the top bedding blanket was too hot. Once I removed it, there were quite a few stains present and the blanket has a funny smell about it. However, Good value for money.

The top blanket is optional and should be removed if guests find they are too hot. Unfortunately we cannot replace bedding for every stain that is present - (we would be buying new bedding daily/weekly in some cases)... all bedding is washed/dry cleaned as required to remove stains - sometimes certain hair dyes, oils, inks etc can leave permanent stains and slight after smells which is most likely in this case. We take care to ensure that bedding/linen are clean but stains (unsightly but always clean) are sometimes a fact of life in this business.......

Except the fact that there are too many rules written everywhere and that the kitchen close at 10:30pm (wich means you have to hurry to have dinner), I would say that I spent a good time at Tiki lodge. I recommend it for quiet people or family !

I challenge this guest to work here for one week and then get them to see if they agree with our notices!!!! As a responsible host - most of our notices are put up for safety and guest security reasons ie. no smoking etc. Other notices have been put up in response to direct guest feedback i.e. kitchen cleanliness, security and noise/behaviour related issues. In an ideal world we wouldn't need any notices at all - they really are there for the minority. Kitchen does close at 10.30pm - guest must have missed the various signs stating: "Kitchen closes at 10.30pm - please ensure you allow sufficient time to prepare, cook, eat and clean up before this time" (in which case you wouldn't need to hurry and eat - hope they don't shop this way - visit the shop 2 mins before closing time!!!!!). By the time we usually close the kitchen (after cleaning it) it is around 11pm already which is about an hour after most other hostels in town close their kitchens....Glad guest still enjoyed their time here - nice to see someone actually does read our notices!!
