We staid in a Dorm and had no locker for our important belongings. That would be the thing, thst would give you an "exellent" in security. The owner (I don't remeber his name) war very friendly. He told us a lot of thngs about Kota Bharu and marked them in the map he gave us. We got also a lot of infomations about Perhentian Island, how to get there and the different Hostels, opportunities to sknorkel, walking around and so on. He was really much more, than you could ever expect! Thanks :)
The staff was very nice and even helped us book our boat to the Perhentian Islands, with a discount. It was a great value for the money and close to all the "happenings".
Don't really know how to rate... It's a budget backpacker so for the money is quite ok... Maybe i got it wrong but there was supposed to be a breakfast and lunch but neither...
Really nice place, with a personal touch (batik in the room), not like thousands of other hostels..you can buy tickets for boat to pehrentian islands.
timur guest house is good for staying there one night..

We only stayed here for one night on our way back to Kuala Lumpur but we definitely got good value for our money!
Beware with Timur Guesthouse! We have been stolen there! Being a dorm without lockers or door padlock, minimum security, anyone could did it. By other hand: only 1 toilet & 1 shower for all, high price to rent bike for few hours (50MYR!), passive staff... But the worst was staff smoking marijuana at night, leaving reception unattended, all the guesthouse was with marijuana smoke! :-(
cheap accommodation but sheets were not clean, great help with getting around
The staff members were helpful and when I checked in, they gave us a city map explaining everything that I would need to know (e.g. the bus stop to airport, money changer, supermarket, suggested route for walking tour...). The hotel had a theme of Godfather, and the room was like a cell in jail. Quite terrifying at first sight but was indeed clean. No air-cond, other facilities are basic, but surely value for money. 5-min walk from the city core, very convenient. 2-storey up from the street
Mat was really helpful and friendly. :)
Ideal for a stop gap for visiting Perhentian Islands, the guy on reception was really helpful and friendly and the accommodation is basic but ok.
Perfect location, friendly and knowledgeable staff, cheap. All good, would definitely stay there again.
it had a very cool atmosphere and a really nice, interesting owner who helped me figure out my stay in the perhentians. make sure you look up exactly how to get there beforehand though... no one in the town seems to know where it is and not even cab drivers could figure out the address.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice homely atmosphere. Free wifi, a TV and sofas to relax and free tea and coffee, great for such a cheap place.

Awesome hostel, The owner is a legend and makes the place feel like home.
Nice, clean Guesthouse, Mat is very helpful and has excellent knowledge about Kota Bharu and around. It's also located near to different food stalls and the night market.
An absolute bargain given the price. Other than not having lockers I can't really fault it.....stay here!
Definitely an awesome hostel! All previous comments about Mat are true- super knowledgeable, friendly and a great host. And the hostel itself is small an you easily feel comfortable and at home. Perfect location by the bus stop, central market for any food product possile and night market for great Malaysian food. I highly, highly recommend staying at this hostel in KB.
In a nutshell: The place is inexpensive, but no a/c meant an uncomfortable night in a hot room with no window. I slept with the door open. The place is rough around the edges, but decent enough for a night transiting through. The manager was very professional & accommodating and even put me in my own room gratis as the bottom bunk I had requested was taken. Stay here if you're looking to save money, but don't expect luxury! Easy to find from the directions; close to the KB bus stn.
