Had a wonderful stay at Toco. Kiri san and his staff are so friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere of the place was awesome. Quiet during the day but buzzing at night when everyone is hanging out at the front bar. I really like the ryokan style of the place and relaxing Japanese garden. The location is in a residential neighborhood, close to subway, and amenities such as mini mart, sento, restaurants, etc. Will definitely stay here again.

There is nothing ... I repeat ... NOTHING to complain about this place. The Staff is very nice. The Rooms are clean as are the toilettes. The Livingroom also serves as a bar for japanese, so you can find new frinds every day (including the staff). oh ... and you get one free drink each day. isn't that great? =) https://www.facebook.com/toco.jp?ref=profile
Stayed for three nights in the mixed 8 bed dorm. A very well preserved 92 year old building. Staff were awesome, one free drink at the bar per day if you're keen (no pressure!). The rooms are tidy and comfy and you can truly make yourself at home. Bring ear plugs as the walls are literally paper thin (traditionally!)
Beautiful building, lovely rooms (be careful of your head on door frames if you're 5'10" or over) and a great garden outside. All of that as nothing compared to the welcome from staff, which was amazing. Loved my time here, and I hope to be back.
It was my first hostel on my Japan trip and I couldn’t have chosen better. Sweet and charming Hostel near Ueno and Asakusa, kept in a traditional style. Very friendly, open minded and talkative staff. I really enjoyed our chats at breakfast (which you can get there for a reasonable price) and the small bar at the entrance is a good place to get to know visiting locals and your fellow backpackers. I'd definitely stay there again when travelling Tokyo.
very nice japanese style hostel. you can have a welcome drink during your stay EVERY DAY. the rooms are nice, but due it's in a old house with paper walls it can be noisy.
This is a wonderful place to stay if you are looking to meet some people during your travels. The staff and the other guests are so friendly and outgoing. One of the staff members even gave me a hug as I was leaving! It helps that everyone gets 1 free drink per night - this encourages people to hang out in the common room together. The common room is also a cool place and inviting place to hang out.
