The best thing going for this place is the staff. They are very friendly and are happy to answer your questions. The location is pretty damn good too and the rest of Manhattan is easily accessible by underground. However the room and bathrooms were pretty poor. The room is pretty overcrowded, the door to the room didn't lock, there is 2 tiny showers to cater for about 6 rooms on our floor and I killed a tick-sized bed bug with my bare hands! It's a cheap stay with breakfast. You weigh it up.

The first night-in the 8 female room was great.. the bathroom was clean. The other nights in the mixed 8 room were ok. The toilet was very clean, but the shower doesn't work so good. The room were I was was really near the kitchen, so in the morning you listen people doing breakfast. The atmosphere is so good, I think is ok for 3 or 4 nights.

Great place to stay for a few days. The heating is turned off during the night and the linnen is very thin. So bring your sleeping bag. However, heating kicks in at 7am and then it will probably too hot again. Not many showers, but it will do. Place is cleaned every day.

I've stayed at places for more money that have given me less. this place is great for what you are paying for. tea all day something quick to munch on when running out the door for the day if you happen to catch the breakfast service, i did once in 14 days, not much to chose from but still its included in the low price. The park is three Avenue blocks up. the subway is a couple blocks and there is always a bus to hop on. i wasn't sight seeing when i stayed here more relocating to the city.

Admin leaves a lot to be desired, in a 3 day stay I lost my bed twice because the records were not properly updated. Chose it because I needed a kitchen and it was closest to where I wanted to be. Excellent subway links for getting around and easy walking distance to Central Park and Museum Mile. Some excellent staff, others less so - depends who you get due to a 'work (for bed) exchange' scheme. Social space can be tight but facilities good. I'd go back.

The very best staff was Anthony, it was a pity that just him looked liked if he likes his job.

Even though this place has some minor flaws, you're sure to get acceptable accommodation for great value-for-money by New York standards.

Amazing atmosphere! The best location. Common area can get a little cramped at times, but that just adds to the character. Highly recommended.

The room was freezing and the linen provided was inadequate! The hostel price was not worth the size of the bedroom, the helpfulness of the staff, the necessities needed (like bedding) and the general atmosphere. The breakfast provided was a disgrace and did not match the breakfast that was promised. On a whole it seemed that no effort was made by the hostel to ensure a happy stay- we checked out early and moved into a hotel that was cheaper and far better. Tone on Lex is a shocker!

good for the money. dorm cleanliness varies - rooms/showers upstairs are better. staff could have been a bit more helpful when i had to change rooms (and thus essentially check out for a whole day). nice atmosphere in the kitchen. Ignore the horror stories - if you've done any backpacking in the world this hostel is fine. free wifi. friendlier than HI on upper westside.

The location is quite amazing (a few blocks from Central Park and Museum mile) and the staff really friendly but the rooms are unheated (for January 2nd that's a shame !), the facilities are tiny as hell (and only two showers and one restroom for the whole floor !) and the breakfast is very light :D Anyway, for the location and the city, the hotel is quite a bargain ! Suitable for few days.
