The location is quite amazing (a few blocks from Central Park and Museum mile) and the staff really friendly but the rooms are unheated (for January 2nd that's a shame !), the facilities are tiny as hell (and only two showers and one restroom for the whole floor !) and the breakfast is very light :D Anyway, for the location and the city, the hotel is quite a bargain ! Suitable for few days.

Door to the dorm didn't lock. Only power outlets in the room (that any of us could find) were two inside the bathroom, which is awkward. Had an early morning arrival, left luggage space was just leaving your bag in the hallway. The locker assigned to my bed in the dorm room was broken, so even with my padlock I was unable to lock up my belongings. It's cheap, though, so in that way it suited my 'very short term stay' purposes.

There were huge problems with our booking meaning I've ordered two beds for seven nights but only got one bed reserved. There was no help from the hostel with solving that problem. That was very poor and leaded to the fact that I was incredibly stressed out because of having to find a new place to stay for at least one of us completely on my own. I've solved that problem just by fortune.

Free cleaned towers as much as you want. But 10 mixed dorm wasn't that good especially shower room but 8 female dorm was great every thing. The only bad thing is the heating system. I was so cold when sleeping.

I liked in this hostel very friendly staff and readiness to assist you (thankx0. Among lacks I can say cold rooms and not very good Internet connection. But in the rest things it is rather good for staying. I recommend!

I think is a great deal for the $20 per night I paid. Nevertheless they really need to take care of the bugs guests find. It's clean, believe me, the restrooms, bathrooms and that, so I don't know how come sometimes u find bugs... People are nice and willing to help you and the kitchen it's a great area to make friends :)

A place to crash, don't have too high expectations for this hostel Positive: Super cheap, Upper Eastside = very good location, Staff is friendly, clean towels always available Negative: No elevator, 10-bed dorms have only 1 sink in the room where everybody sleeps, only 1 shower and 1 bathroom per floor for other dorms, breakfast means 2 slices of toastbread with butter or jelly from 9-10AM

Good location, nice staffs...but this hostel is too old, small and dirty. I was suprised for very small room, kitchen and restroom. Frying fan, pots looked so dirty, I didn't wanna use them. I saw even huge bug on wall!.....Also when I went to shower room in the morning, an old man who I saw in front of the shower room before I went inside peed on drain hole! I'm sure he did. I could smell it....was horrible. I strongly don't recommend this hostel.

Tone on lex is small but what can you expect fir manhattan. Unfortunately on my last night stay I got bed bugs. Not bad, but bad enough for the need to complain. The toilets and showers are small but cleaned every day and fresh towels are available. Breakfast is 2 pieces of toast, coffee and if your lucky juice. The workers are ok, but there is one outstanding man who organized a Christmas/eve dinner (was amazing!) and would organize group activities unlike the other workers incl the manager!

Great place to stay if you wanna be near the places to visit in NYC. Staff is welcoming and friendly. Despite everything is really old, it's pretty much clean. Had a great time there!

The hostel is really well located in the city, and you won't find anything cheaper than that. HOWEVER, except for one or two exceptions, the staff is not nice at all (the manager and the maintenance guy - who used our private restroom WHILE I was in the bedroom), there were bugs, our bedroom's door was never locked and the lockers are ridiculously tiny... But still, if you want to stay in the city for a while without spending too much money, this is the best deal you can find.

The staff and especially the owner, Anthony, were wery helpfull and friendly: they organized a great Christmas Party, with buffet and presents for hostel's guest. Kitchen works good with everything. Basic breakfast, with coffee, tea bread butter and jam. Rooms and restroom clean. The subway stop is just one block far. When i made the reservation (4 days from 21 to 25 of December) this was the cheapest hostel in New York: so what you want ? Tone on Lex is a very good choise for your NY vacation.

staff are friendly and helpful and do their best there but hostel was quite cramped, too many beds in each room, common area and kitchen too small. free toast and coffee for breakfast-would be useful to have longer breakfast hours (not just 9-10). , ensuite bathrooms were tiny-better to use communal bathrooms. A short stay would probably be ok there but wouldnt reccommend a long one!

This was definitely the cheapest hostel in NYC so I was happy with the rate! But it's quiet small: the kitchen and bathrooms are small and not of the best quality. I didn't had internet for two whole days wich totally sucked!! I heard that that happens more often.. The staff good be more helpfull and they could be a lot lot happier too.. But if you compare this histel with the others in NYC then this is a good option: for NY's standards it's cheap and therefore okay.

Staff were mostly lovely. The door to my room was broken so the code was pointless. The wifi reception was shocking also.

Ok, I have read the previous reviews about Tone and was a bit afraid of what to expect. That is why I was positively surprised. Nice hostel- ok, there were bugs in the kitchen and it is old but at the same time every public room is cleaned on regular basis. Toilets and showers included. Staff was friendly and very helpful. We checked in late at night without problems and after checking out we were allowed to leave our stuff there till late at night. Overall, for 20$per night - perfect!!!
