Tone on Lex Reviews

I work at a top-rated hostel in Los Angeles, so after reading many reviews on HostelWorld, I knew to expect that Tone on Lex is not the "greatest" hostel around; however, I booked our stay here because of the low prices. Not So Great: Saw a bug a midst the breakfast table. Didn't have hot water for one morning. Low amount of outlets in room. GREAT: Friendly and helpful staff. AWESOME roommates, great location, comfortable beds, amazing "vibe"! Overall, a wonderful value!! Would stay again :)

Good location, very cramped rooms, you can just get into the toilet and the sink and kitchen too small for the number of people but good atmosphere

i wouldnt recommend this hostel to anyone planning on staying in New York. Having free Wi-Fi is the only positive i can take from my short stay there.

Dorm space is quite small - but all the more to get to know your housemates! Expect to cram into bathrooms and showers if you're bunking in. The staff are quite international and interesting to talk to; though it is a hit and miss. Overall, a budget place to stay - perfectly fine if you're just using the hostel as a place to sleep. I hear the upstairs rooms do not have wireless - make sure to inquire.

I fund there was hair in the pillow when I went into the room just after checking in. Of course, the staff were very helpful and kind.

The hostel was very nice,little bit small spaces,bud for short stay is perfect,really close to the subway,also with big luggage(I stopped between my flights from Europe to LAX),breakfast was o.k.(also before 10am) and nice kitchen with all dishes!For less money is this a great accommodation!The area really secure also at night - is a residential part of Manhattan!Next time I will choose this hostel again!! ALEX

When i arrived to tone on lex i passed it because there was no sign that told me the hostel is there (it was raining and i just wanted to stay inside!!) The hostel is close to the subway (5minutes walking distance) and it is clean!! What i dislike is, that the bed wasn't comfortable and that the room was cold, otherwise the hoszel is offering a lot of activities and my stay was a nice stay :)

The Tone on Lex is the by far the best hostel i have ever stayed in. The location is perfect, 2 minutes away from the subway. The staff are nice and kind. The rooms have lockers in (free) if you take your own lock. Free unlimited clean towles, free food on Wednesdays. Free tea all day. Free breakfast every morning. Free wi fi all day and night, you can get it even in some of the rooms. Hot showers 24 hours a day. Free soap and toilet paper in the rest rooms. Do not pay attention to bad reviews.

Stunning people and service

Have areas for people to work during after hours. I didn't like not having the kitchen to work because that's where the outlets were... The area where people left their luggage was ok EXCEPT it had no outlets...

Very nice place)

The beds were not comfortable at all, I had bad backaches after spending the first night there. There was no internet access. I was provided with a pass word but it didn't work and I had to carry my laptop with me outside and look for a free WiFi. I couldn't have shower because it was broken. Breakfast is served too late (9am) so I did not wait for that!..all in all my stay was not comfortable at all. The only good thing I liked about it is the location

A very average hostel-very cheap stay hence expect very little-the bathrooms are so small you can barely turn around in them, the heating was off most time-we were told it was New York so we should expect that! breakfast very basic-toast bread and jam, The reception staff quite rude and with an attitude-I was told I should pay with credit card or bring exact change or they wouldn´t give me the key. They charge fine for picking a blanket from a bed that´s not occupied!

I really like it! It was a very nice stay in NY, and all the friends I made in the hostel were excellent! I love it!

Don't expect much when you arrive at Tone on Lex. You get what you pay for. This place is by far one of the cheapest place in Manhattan. If all you care is a bed to sleep for the night and don't mind everything else, this is the place for you. Try to get a room above ground floor to avoid kitchen noise.

no where to hang clothes not even one nail

enjoyed my stay very much..clean,staff friendly and help full..like the free piza on wensday night,also free internet,and nice to have tea and coffee all day long...but like to see more choice on the breakfast....over all very good value for money

Very good value for money ! especially in NYC. Good location. Room and bathroom are small but for the price ... no complaint
