We really enjoyed our stay at Tranquil Lodge and what was missing in things like Cleanliness and security was made up for by the totally amazing staff and owners!! They go out of their way to help you and make you feel really at home. Nothing is to much of a problem and the laid back atmosphere is the icing on the cake!! Would def go back and recommend to everyone brilliant value for money and great location.

the hostel offers basic and clean rooms, quiet nights and free laundry. far from centre and supermarkets though. the owner is very nice and offered us a drop off at the bus stop (thank u).

The Hostel was friendly - Homelike.Stayed for 3 nights while looking for job in Chch.Conveniently located around the corner from a Speights Ale House- How convenient. Good overall - Still trying to find employment thought !

Only had a short nights stay at this hostel but found it very pleasant and nice and peaceful. Not many toilets/showers for the number of rooms but nice powerful showers when you get in there. Owner is lovely and very friendly and will help you out with anything you need. There was an earthquake while we stayed and he went round making sure everyone was ok and happy! Would recommend.

Great if you arrive late and/or are leaving very early. Good place to spot for the night briefly.

This is a good hostel with nice owners and good facilities but it is quite far from City centre - 15-20 min walk. Kitchen was quite small so difficult to use if more than 3 people in there. Graham was friendly and helpful.

Was disappointed in the standard of the bathrooms and toilets. Unable to shower anytime was a little weird. Generally didn't have a 'tranquil' vibe.

It is really nice place to stay at, and sometimes at the right time, you get to meet the right group of people that are really nice and fun to hang around with. The place is a great hang out place for those who are travelling alone or in smaller groups - you can cook together, watch movies together or just hang out and have a few beers together. Great atmosphere to be in although not the best location - too far away from the city unless you have a bike!!

Our stay here was great! We were supposed to stay in a dorm but the owner was quite nice and upgraded us to a private room free of charge. We found it a great place to use as our base for planning. It was quite close to the CBD (even though it was still closed). Th only,very minor, thing was that the lock on our door didn't work. But we had a great stay, so thank you!

All they need is hammocks to be setup and it would definitely be tranquil

The Tranquil Lodge is everything it promised and very tranquil. The owner is very friendly and accomodating. I arrived a few hours before check in but was able to wait in the lounge until my room was available and I only had to wait about 30 minutes. The staff was very friendly and helped me answer all my questions about the airport and the bus system! Conveniently, it is located just a little walk from the new Temporary Bus Exchange. In short: neat, clean, friendly and a great stay!

I've got a very nice time in this hostel especially thanks to the staff who do everything to make feel you like at home. It's a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. It's clean and the kitchen is fully equiped.

Absolute dump cant belive they have a sticker that is trip advisor recomended on the entrence ..... Anyway thanks for letting us no its a ex nursing home its a very dirty shabby place worst in nz

Staff was great and accommodating. We had an early flight out and he upgraded us to a private room so we'd be able to get up in the morning without worrying about others. The tv room was cute and everything was very relaxed. We stayed here for our first two nights and returned after a week driving around the island for the night.

I am not sure if we picked the best night to stay here as a fight errupted sometime during the night and the police had to be called. Not the hostels fault I know but definately a pain as we had a flight to catch early the next morning. ThIs place looks a little rough from the outside but this is due to all the earthquakes but the building is safe and the rooms were lovely. The staff are very friendly
