This hostel is located in Picnic Bay, which seems a bit like a ghost beach. Not much to do, but nice and quiet for those who want that. Kitchen is rather dirty, but rooms are decent and AC works well. Pool is more like a pond, but kept clean. Nice little independent place in a more quiet area of the island. Perfect if you're looking to enjoy the island lifestyle with the locals! We had a really nice stay here & the buses make the other parts of the island accessible. Nice little independent place in a more quiet area of the island. Unfortunately it is a dirty hostel... and everything is old. That makes it not very comfortable to stay. The kitchen is dirty -I think because there is no staff who cleans it, too. It is pretty good to relax outside and on beautiful Magnetic Island -that is positive ;)Unfortunately it is a dirty hostel... and everything is old. That makes it not very comfortable to stay. Picnic Bay is the old ferry port, so now it is the secluded hamlet of the island. Good social scene at hostel and dorms have AC. $2 AUD bus ride from ferry. Walking trails at the end of Picnic street are the best nature trails on the island. One offers a scenic overlook view of the island and another is a shortcut to the islands nude beach. Moon Parties at a neighboring hostel chain are "highly" over-rated...that is not just my opinion...I've heard it from scores of other backpackers. I would not recommend this place. The room was small, our bed was held up with bricks and it was reminiscent of a prison cell. The showers are dirty and there was no hot water in two of the three showers. There was no staff to greet us on arrival despite us arriving quite early. The hostel is situated by a nice beach and there was a friendly possum, which were the only real advantages. Very disappointing.I would not recommend this place. Quirky little place. Can see why lots of people come here and stay for quite a while. It is a real hideaway. Location not great but if you just want to get away from the madness of travelling would suit fine. Very basic accomodation. Clean.Quirky little place. Not very clean, pretty dingy and dark. The guy who checked us in spoke to us through a metal guard - not very friendly. Rooms were dirty - blankets were disgusting and stained.
