I had a private, single room at the hotel during Golden Week. I felt like it was a real bargain. The location is excellent, a 10 minute walk to Ueno and Asakusa. The Ginza subway line is nearby that makes it very easy to get around to all the major sights in Tokyo. Keep in mind, it's a business hotel. The room will be small, the bathroom even smaller and it will smell a bit off. It's a place to sleep only. I'd definitely stay here again!

This place was nasty. I felt dirty the whole time I was there. The room reeked of cigarettes, the carpet was dingy and staind. The shower had mold around, including the shower curtain. Black hair around the corners of the room. There was no WiFi in the room.

Very so-so hotel, but OK if you really want to get as low cost as possible and what you need is only a bed. Very small bathroom, better use the shared bathroom at 1st floor. Checkout time is @10am which could be inconvenient ...

Good, not the best but good enough for the money spent. Rooms are quite small, but comfortable. Clean enough. No restaurant and wifi was bad (I was at 8th floor). Room was with the lowest enough accomodations. Once again, good for the price.

Didn't have high expectations and were surprised with what we got. Also because we have lived in Japan for a few months now the Japanese style toilet wasn't an issue. The shared bath was a little smaller than we expected but it was a good adventure. I would reccommend this to those who don't mind being a little adventurous and trying new things, if you want a room with an ensuite I wouldn't bother staying here. We had a very positive experience and no trouble communicating with staff.

A good, budget hotel in traditional Japanese style. You might be in trouble if you're much more than 6 foot as the doorways are really low. You wouldn't go here for 'atmosphere' but rather for a cheap minimal hotel, which it is. It has a good onsen too which is always a plus.

Rooms were really tiny. Small doublebed next to the wall. Not able to reach from both sides. Space on other side maybe half a meter. No space to move or to put a suicase. No space to store anything. Rooms are very dark, no windows, except bathroom. Loud at night. Personnel was unfriendly. Checkin not before 4 pm! So why can i choose time on the website if it's for nothing? Also Hotel does not accept any creditcards. Luggage room was poorly secured, not possible to lock it. Never staying again.

We had a great stay at Tsukuba Hotel last week. As many others have commented, the hotel is in a great location. Although the hallways smelled of cigarette smoke, the room itself did not. We were a little surprised to have no heat, so it was a little chilly in the room at night. The bathing area was also a little surprising, as it is a literal bath that you share with everyone else in the hotel. Overall a great place to stay for the value.

I admittedly have pretty high standards, but I didn't like this place. Cons included shared squat toilet and shower/bath, shabby appearance, extremely noisy heater in the room, air quality that gave me an awful cough, a slightly long train ride to everywhere I was interested in visiting (Mitaka, Shibuya, Harajuku, Akiba, etc.), and they had a small party in the room they held our bags in while we waited for check-in time... which made me nervous. Pros: low price; yukata & towels replaced daily.

Great Location, close walk to Ueno station there & there is a stop about 20m away if you have a subway pass. We booked last minute for super cheap & extended our stay an extra night with no dramas at all. The room we had was standard japanese compact - small double bed - small japanese style ensuite & although looking rundown everything kind of worked - the toilet only flushed when it felt like it and the japanese style bath drained all over the floor - but it was otherwise tidy and clean.

The room was old and smelly - the tub was a metal bucket that wasnt even bolted no the floor. Staff were uninterested and very unhelpful. Moved to another hotel after two days in the same area and same price but quality wise far better. The only redeeming quality about this place is its location - close to the train and some major attractions.
