really nice hostel, increadibly good for resting. Close to subway and bus station. First place I ever see with a cover on the bed besides the linen. Really clean place. Nice staff.
At first I thought, because of other user's comments, that this hostel was going to be simply fantastic. But it turned out to be quite normal and even less impresive than other places where i have been. So, just that, dont make too many expectations about the place. It's good enough.
I've stayed in better & worse. Generally was OK
Most of the staff is really nice and helpful, but not all of them.... Nice place, and really good internet and movie/tv selection...
This was a good location close to the Metro. I wish that there was more of a community feel here. All the guests stayed to themselves. The breakfast wasn't very good and we didn't eat the dinner which might have been better. The place was very safe which was nice. The facilities were ok. The air conditioning would only turn on between 8pm and 10am unless you wanted to pay 20R for the day. The front desk was average. It wasn't reliable if they would be there or not and didn't have any tour deals.
It´s a very nice place form which all main attraction are easily reachable. The staff is great - At the bar Vico is always great for a smart talk an can tell you a lot about the real Rio de Janeiro, Ray is always very Kind and mixes great Caipirihas, the Chef - she´s perfect and the Girls are always very Kind and helpful.

Quite a large hostel, staff were very friendly and spoke English (or tried their hardest to do the best they could) special mention to Victor and Horge who were fantastic and extremely helpful. Located in Botafogo which is a residential and safe district. Main point of this hostel is that 90% or so are Brazilians so there's not as much of a community feeling if you don't speak Portuguese.
This hostel is in a good location, Botafogo is a really nice place to spend a couple of days of your total stay in Rio! Unfortunately, the staff speaks very bad English and are not really helpfull, there is no good vibe in the common areas and there are actually only Brazilian guests and whole families. So if you are a travellar and looking for a nice place to stay and meet new people, I would not recommand this place!
An ok Hostel if you just want a bed. We stayed during World Cup,so the dorms very noisy but this was to be expected. Rooms are clean but very cramped and basic. Showers are cold. If you are looking for a sociable hostel then this is not the place. They do have a bar but never any staff to serve you and it's like a ghost town. Location is good for the Metro. Only a few minutes walk away. If you like real Brazil this is the place as no tourists around at all.
Excelente lugar muy buena onda por parte de staffing y la comida que hacen en el lugar muy buena.
Fantastic hostel, except that it took about 1.5 hours to check in!
WAS JUST THE OPPOSITE AS WE EXPECTED, READING ALL GOOD REPORTS....WAS DIRTY, NOISY....,OUR ROOM WAS OPPOSITE THE RECEPION AND EVENTHOU THERE WAS BIG SIGN ABOUT SILENCE AFTER 10PM, THERE WERE STAFF FROM THE RECEPTION WHO MADE ALL THE NOISE TILL EARLY MORNING, EVENTHOU WE WARN THEM, THEY DID NOT CARE...THEY ARE FRIENDLY TILL YOU PAQY THEM EVERYTHING...,IN ADDVANCE OF COURSE, BUT AFTER, THER WERE JUST...,HAVE NO WORDS...WE PAYED 60 EOR PER NIGHT FOR HORRIBLE DIRTY, WORN OUT ROOM...NOT WORTH 10 EU,

we stayed five nights at the hostel and we had a really good time. the staff was really friendly. it is hard to find a better hostelteam. we appreciated the breakfast at the roof terrace with a good view of the Christo statue. we will stay at the hostel again because it was very nice. B&V from Germany
We had a nice 4-bed bedroom and luckely didnt got any more guests which made we had a private bath room. The view on the terrace is lovely. about the staff.. let´s say 50% of it was really friendly and sympa. The other 50%... well, not.
The people that working in Tupiniquim are wonderful, very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is very varied. Some problems with dirty bathroom and leaking, but excellent value for money.
Some staff were super friendly and helpful, others somewhat scary. Sometimes difficult, because some did not speak any English (but they did their best!). A bit of money got stolen from our room, but it was our fault (left it lying around). Location is great (Botofogo rules!). Very clean, good shower, and a lovely breakfast!!! Monkeys on the terrace and a great view of Christo Redentor! Rained into our room once... Common room noisy in the evenings, but hey. I recommend it anyway.
We enjoyed our stay at Tupiniquim. A couple of drawbacks: breakfast runs out early and the staff is not very helpful at giving directions... they sent us to the wrong place to take the bus back to the airport!
The staff was always very busy fixing problems (broken toilets, luggage room,...) so that they couldn't give helpful tips for the city. Also, when we booked a tour, they told us 3 different prices and different sights and things that should be included. Most used words: "I'm so sorry" and "don't worry, everything is included" (of course it was not)! Don't go there! Ps.: They also told us to take a bus to the island Ilha Grande (not a boat/ferry) ;-)
Upset we only stayed one day here. The rooms were fantastic clean and spacious. staff were very helpful and hilarious! Only downside the suburb is a bit out the way of everything so you have to take a cab to get anywhere decent at night and during the day
The owner was rude and very inflexible. The rooms were very noisy, the bed was broken and the ceiling was full of holes. We had a room right next to the reception. We had to get up in the middle of the night to ask the (non-english speaking) reception lady to turn off her music and not talk so loud in her phone. Multiple times. Internet cost money even though wifi was free. The owner wouldnt allow us to transfer pictures to the common computer via USB since "guests dont know what they're doing".
