An ok Hostel if you just want a bed. We stayed during World Cup,so the dorms very noisy but this was to be expected. Rooms are clean but very cramped and basic. Showers are cold. If you are looking for a sociable hostel then this is not the place. They do have a bar but never any staff to serve you and it's like a ghost town. Location is good for the Metro. Only a few minutes walk away. If you like real Brazil this is the place as no tourists around at all.
Excelente lugar muy buena onda por parte de staffing y la comida que hacen en el lugar muy buena.
Fantastic hostel, except that it took about 1.5 hours to check in!

we stayed five nights at the hostel and we had a really good time. the staff was really friendly. it is hard to find a better hostelteam. we appreciated the breakfast at the roof terrace with a good view of the Christo statue. we will stay at the hostel again because it was very nice. B&V from Germany
We had a nice 4-bed bedroom and luckely didnt got any more guests which made we had a private bath room. The view on the terrace is lovely. about the staff.. let´s say 50% of it was really friendly and sympa. The other 50%... well, not.
The people that working in Tupiniquim are wonderful, very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is very varied. Some problems with dirty bathroom and leaking, but excellent value for money.
Some staff were super friendly and helpful, others somewhat scary. Sometimes difficult, because some did not speak any English (but they did their best!). A bit of money got stolen from our room, but it was our fault (left it lying around). Location is great (Botofogo rules!). Very clean, good shower, and a lovely breakfast!!! Monkeys on the terrace and a great view of Christo Redentor! Rained into our room once... Common room noisy in the evenings, but hey. I recommend it anyway.
We enjoyed our stay at Tupiniquim. A couple of drawbacks: breakfast runs out early and the staff is not very helpful at giving directions... they sent us to the wrong place to take the bus back to the airport!
The staff was always very busy fixing problems (broken toilets, luggage room,...) so that they couldn't give helpful tips for the city. Also, when we booked a tour, they told us 3 different prices and different sights and things that should be included. Most used words: "I'm so sorry" and "don't worry, everything is included" (of course it was not)! Don't go there! Ps.: They also told us to take a bus to the island Ilha Grande (not a boat/ferry) ;-)
Upset we only stayed one day here. The rooms were fantastic clean and spacious. staff were very helpful and hilarious! Only downside the suburb is a bit out the way of everything so you have to take a cab to get anywhere decent at night and during the day
The owner was rude and very inflexible. The rooms were very noisy, the bed was broken and the ceiling was full of holes. We had a room right next to the reception. We had to get up in the middle of the night to ask the (non-english speaking) reception lady to turn off her music and not talk so loud in her phone. Multiple times. Internet cost money even though wifi was free. The owner wouldnt allow us to transfer pictures to the common computer via USB since "guests dont know what they're doing".
The Tipiniquim has a good location in Botafogo, close to métro and buses, not far for Copacabana beach and the Centro. Staff is friendly and the terrasse and the view on Corcovado are nice. The beds are confortable and the showers clean.
Bad hostel, no main room to socialise with friends or anything, scary staff, I don't recommend. Better than sleeping in the street though.
Nice small hostel, friendly staff, good breakfast. Walking distance from major beaches, buses and subway station. 8-person room has it's own bathroom & shower, which is a nice extra.
Very well organised hostel, felt extremely safe and content there! Really great team of staff speaking a variety of languages and they took all the time in the world to answer every single question I had to ask - perfect!
I loved this place, feel like home! Everything is correct! For sure you will have a great time, it's just the perfect place to stay in rio!
Not a place you will remember probably, but good enough for just a night if you couldn't find anything better. Check in took quite a while, but the guy at the reception was very friendly. The rooms are very small, and the wifi doesn't work in the common rooms, so I used it sitting on the stairs. Mainly Brazilians where staying here. Breakfast was very good. Location and neighbouthood are not so great. Rio has many better hostels, so won't stay here again.
Hostel location is ok, although still far from the most popular beacheas. The building needs some maintenance as it appears old and decaying even though they have cutting edge computers at the entrance and bar.
