The water temperature of the showers was impossible to control. It fluctuated from hot to cold without being able to stay at the same temperature.

Excellent staff, very helpful and friendly. Really clean and a great location, with the only downside being it does get noisy because its so close to the main bars.

USA Hostels San Diego is a special place... I arrived alone and left so sad to have to say goodbye to so many new friends after only 6 nights. I never would have left if I didn't have to. Thanks to the staff; Sam being a cute muffin and I love him, Chiuans dance moves, Rachel and Amy being sweethearts, Carlos the fun enforcer and Take's amazing chicken teriyaki. The activities every day are great and make it so easy to meet people. Thank you so much everybody!

This is an amazing hostel. Its extremely clean hostel with an awesome staff. Rachel on front desk is so much fun and very helpful and the whole reception team made my time in San Diego an unforgettable experience. Sam's great guy to show you around. The management team was great fun and very approachable and made exploring the city so easy. Definitely recommend getting to a baseball game, and the staff are happy to go and explaining the game. And the Tijuana trip was an absolute highlight

Thanks so much for your great comments. We'll be sure to Rachel and Sam know they were helpful to you. And we agree...you shouldn't miss a baseball game in San Diego! and of course you have to buy a hotdog and beer to go with the outing.

This is located in the gaslamp heart where there's a ton of things to do. Has a very euro feel and the staff knows what they're talking about. Overall great place!

A really nice hostel if you are travelling in a group or with friends, but there are a lot of private rooms so if you are travelling by yourself it's not ideal for making friends and meeting people. The staff were really helpful when i asked questions but a tour around the hostel at the beginning would have been nice. The location is right in the middle of gaslamp which is good but extremely noisy until around 3.30am every night. Also they only have communal bathrooms.

Hi Christy, thanks for your comments and we're glad it appears you enjoyed your stay. In the winter months we have 8 private rooms and 76 dorm beds available and in summer we have 2 private rooms and about 90 dorm beds. We think a great way to make new friends in the hostel is to participate in our group activities. We have a weekly daytime Tijuana tour and nightly outings including the pub crawl and Taco Tuesdays and we work with a local promoter to hit the funnest bars and clubs in town on a nightly basis. But your comments are getting us thinking perhaps we need more daytime activities so people to meet one another...we'll soon be starting our outing to baseball games again but we'll think on some other new things we can add.

Awesome! Far exceeded my expectations for a US Hostel. If you're looking for an inexpensive place to crash & meet interesting people, then look no further than this. Staff were friendly, helpful, and chill yet professional. Building & rooms offered excellent security and location offered many options for food...whether visiting one of the many local restaurants or visiting Ralph's market and making use of the Hostel's kitchen. Lots of great museums (Maritime, Midway, etc.), beaches, & more!

This hostel is great it's not to big, so you don't feel like your in a hotel. The location is perfect, walking distance to the harbour, and all the bars and clubs are right out the front door. If your travelling alone it's easy to meet people because they have daily activities and their free. So I recomend san diego, and usa hostels san siego.

I chose this dt location, walkable to train stn. Very noisy in street side rm until 2am. coed dorm(no same gender),highlighted light&electric in the bunk, main reason for this choic. Did NOT work,no apologies by staff, did not know how to fix or to give discount.

Thank you for your comments, we always appreciate the feedback. To address your points, when you told the senior manager about the light not working in the bunk bed, you also mentioned that a staff member the previous night had tried to fix it and when the senior manager was told about it, we unfortunately did not have a maintenance person in-house who could look at it. We did apologize for the inconvenience this free feature caused you and would have gladly changed your room or bed if we had understood just how important this was to you. Also, we do have female dorms, but perhaps they were sold out when you made your booking. Unfortuantely there's nothing we can do about street noise as we are located in the center of the entertainment district. We do hope the rest of your travels were more pleasant.

The temperature in the showers drove me a bit nutty and the dark haired night girl at the desk is less than friendly, but aside from that your hostel was amazingly organized [love the stickers for food and the tags for the bags] and I love how you've decorated the place. Also, thanks so much for the all day tea and coffee!

This place is in a very lively part of town, near many restaurants, bars, pubs, and clubs annd also near the convention center. This location is excellent if you are looking for a lively downtown atmosphere. The staff and management were clearly dedicated to being helpful and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and security. The complementary wifi worked well. The lounge was a comfortable place to hangout, read, or use the wifi.
