overall, everything excellent, location in the heart of down town, staffs super friendly, just one problem ,the showers, water gets cold or hot which is a plumming problem and requires to change the watering system to prevent sudden shortage of cold or hot water,.....thanx to all of you guys who work hard and friendly ,see you soon zozo :)
Great spot. Staff were a bit up and down though. Hard to tell who was who. And some were helpful, some didn't have much of an idea. Only three toilets shared between an entire floor... But they were mostly immaculate. I'd stay here again

This place has a decent location but if you're travelling alone and hoping to meet people it's not ideal. Some of the staff are friendly and helpful but others feel distant and like they aren't interesting in hanging out with you or helping you.
Great place to stay ! Wonderful staff and atmosphere - really clean too.
Long stairs to reach the hostel. When carrying a big luggage it's a little bit challenging.
An awesome location, in the middle of the Party of San Diego
Very great location in downtown SD. Facilities are large and nice. The staff was nice and helpful. I do think the vibe isn't as friendly or interactive as other experiences. If your traveling alone, you might not make friends here.
This was one of my favorite hostels whilst I while travelling. I could see why this place had won an award for atmosphere, everyone was really friendly and the design of the hostel makes it quite cosy and welcoming. All you can eat pancakes were also a highlight.
Great location, very clean, excellent security, clean and tidy, fantastic value for money...however there seemed to be more staff than guests on a few occasions and some weren't overly helpful or friendly which let the hostel down. Free breakfast was great and free tea and coffee all day...added bonus!
I stayed here for a conference and really enjoyed my stay. I took the free ear plugs but only needed them one night (Friday) when it was more busy. No complaints about cleanliness or security, great breakfast. The only downside was that there are no gender separated sinks for a quick wash. I noted some reviewers complaining about showers, but they worked fine for me. Having moved to US recently, I noted lots of showers don´t keep up with GER/EU standarts. Those worked better than mine at home :)

The fire alarm went off for over 20 minutes at 3am in the morning. There was no fire. There isn't a whole lot of common space. Everything else was good.
Great spot right in the downtown area of San Diego called the Gaslamp. But definitely noisy in the street-facing rooms until 2am some nights until the bars close. Reception offers you earplugs though if you need them, which is a nice touch. The staff here are so lovely, regularly going above and beyond to make sure your stay is comfortable and fun. Good security, nice bunk beds with a little 'privacy pod', and good breakfast. I'd definitely come back and recommend this place!
Another great hostel from the USA Hostels group. The beds are purpose-built and have lights and power sockets in the frames. I stay at USA Hostels because they have a professional operation. One complaint is they don't have any maximum age restrictions so in my room was an old guy, taking the place of what could have been a beautiful Swedish traveller looking to tick Australia off on her hookup map.
Stayed a week, really enjoyed it. + Very friendly staff; each employee was happy to answer questions and give directions. + The beds had privacy walls, a shelf, and outlet. Extremely convenient! + Bathrooms seemed properly sized; easily accommodated guests of each floor. + Excellent location! - The showers had mold growing in them. One shower only drizzled water, another would occasionally spray cold water even very early in morning.
Great location, but could do with more organised events during the day to see San Diego. Tijuana tour had a lot of potential too, but didn't quite live up to expectations. Don't get me wrong, I had a good stay! Hostel itself is cool and quirky, and in a convenient location in downtown SD.
