Check in criteria:
We welcome guests from everywhere outside of San Francisco county. At check in, international guests must present a valid passport. US residents must present valid government issued identification (ie: driver’s license, state id card, passport). Guests may also be asked to present proof of onward travel. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian. Guests under 16 permitted only in private rooms unless an entire dorm is rented. Parents with young children must contact the hostel prior to booking. Please note that we try our best to keep people travelling together in the same room. However, sometimes due to availability and/or booking patterns, we may not be able to do so. If you have a special request concerning this, please email the hostel directly.

Besides being located only a few blocks from the cable cards and Powell Street (which is kind of the heart of the city), what makes our location special is two main things - staff and facilities. Many of our staff have been with us for years and really do enjoy helping guests come to love San Francisco as much as they do. Our staff know all the great, off-the-beaten path places to go and are happy to share their local secrets.

And for guests choosing to 'hang out' at the hostel, there are a variety of places within the building where they can get comfortable. If they need alone time, all our dorms feature 'privacy pods', an exclusively-designed addition to each bed that features a light, shelf, outlet and screening from other guests. Or, they can hide away in our quiet library and catch up on reading. If they are craving a movie, we have a 50-seat theatre. If they're ready to mingle, we have a large lounge with pool and foosball tables.
We're suited for guests of all flavours and ages, groups of up to 50 people, long-haul resting stops, weekend getaways and students - we even have a student residence on the top two floors!- Maria, COO

I had an amazing time at USA Hostel San Francisco! I am traveling alone but from the second I arrived I felt at home. The 4 bed dorms are a great way to meet people. The staff very friendly and helped me book trip and a shuttle to LA. I am a bit of a clean freak and I found the hostel super clean, I saw the housekeeping staff at work and they really scrub the place down. No complaints here.

This property has a 1 day cancellation policy.Failure to cancel within this time will result in a cancellation charge equal to the first night of your stay.
Things to Note
Check-in: 11am for dorms, 2pm for privates. Check-out: 10am. A refundable $10 security deposit per person is collected at check-in. Changes/cancellations may be made up to 6pm, California time, the day before arrival. Late cancellations/no-shows are charged the first night's accommodation. We try to ensure people traveling together are in the same room. However, due to availability and/or booking patterns, there is a slight chance parties booking dorm beds will be placed in separate rooms.
