The room was very disappointing. The mattresses were too old, the room was small, dark and the floor was very dirty.... The toilets and bathroom were apparently clean, but the infrastructure was old, unfunctional and unpleasant. Fortunately we spend only two nights in there...

Clothes stolen from laundry dryer while I left to use bathroom. No laundry soap in dispenser marked out of order. Blinds in room filthy and wouldn't raise up. Reported it and wasn't fixed. Only good thing here is they have a pool and excellent convenient location. Staff often unfriendly

Great in-house activities- pool, basketball, sauna. No lockers, storge spaces or way to hang clothes up Coin laundry a plus. Great staff- helpful, know the area well and have good dieas about where to go and what to see. They really go out of their way to make things go smoothly.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Vanderbilt, especially because of its location. We could walk to the main spots or take the metro. There is a very nice café right across the street where we could have great breakfast. Staff was helpful (but not exactly friendly rsrsrs).

Excellent hostel if you want a relatively cheap stay in Midtown Manhattan. 15 minutes walk from Times Sq, Central Park and less than 10 minutes to Grand Central and subway. Our private room (shared bathroom) was simple and clean, but could use a revamp. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Some people at reception desk were not very helpful when asked about the chance to change room due to noise from airconditioning devices coming from the street despite evidence of some empty rooms left. However some security people were very nice, even providing free soap when having to use the laundry services

Staff not very polite, wifi only in the lobby. I'd definitely go back there for a cheap stay in NY. Basic but you know what you're getting.

location was really good, 10 mins work to Grand Central, 20 mins work to Empire State Building/Time Square. And there're several coffee/bar/resteraunts nearby. the facilities are old, rooms are small, only 1 shower/restroom in one floor for each gender, so I need to walk pretty long way to get to the shower/restroom. but one cannot complaint much with such a reasonable price in mid-town Manhattan. It'll be suitable for those who stay only shortly, and do not care much about comfort.

Room was a little run down, the bed was ok to sleep in, the sheets were clean. The door had a door closer on it that was broken and made a loud noise when opening and closing. The elevators were slow but that was ok to live with. Bathrooms - there was almost always a line to go to the toilet or shower.

Staff at the Vanderbilt could be or at least try to be a bit more friendly or willing to help. The two times I asked them for help, they seem to be annoyed.

It is a good place to stay, close to Times Square and pretty comfortable. The room was small but clean and the staff very friendly.
