Staff at check in seemed not to like that reservations were made by email as if not to get there regular room rate was not acceptable. I had emailed that I had reserved the room, confirmation number, etc., but perhaps it was not logged in yet there at the YMCA. Still I felt a different treatment because I reserved it.

Location was good. Even though, it didn't have the hostel environment. It was hard to meet people from all over the world. I couldn't cook my own food, it didn't have breakfast included. It was acceptably clean. It didn't have the roughness and adventureness of hostels. It was more like a hotel.

I have stayed there @ least 5-times in the past, primarily due to cost, gym facilities, proximity to my annual meeting in Times Sq. Twice, I told the security personnel the refrigerator didn't work, & the TV remote either. I was there3-nights, and they never addressed these issues. I would recommend putting notices to ask occupants to be wary of others trying to sleep between the hours of 22:00,[10P civilian], & 06:00, [6A to civilians]. you get what you pay for & it's a leg up on the others

i had a wonderful time at YMVCA Vanderbilt.. Great location, friendly security staff for tourists, clean facilities. i would only criticise problems withe the internet connections. for those seeking for good location due that its in midtown, doing sports while your stay, definitly a great option. even more if your a member, youll notice the strength of the association.

I found the staff rude and unhelpful. The internet facilities were not really working well at all however the location was good.

I stayed in a twin private. There was one shower and two toilets were available for women on the entire floor I stayed in. The room was OK for one who wishes to spend the minimum time indoors, small but clean enough. The lighting in the room was terrible though, especially with the bulk bed present. All the staff were very nice. It takes about twenty minutes to walk to Times Square, the location is convenient.

The heat in my room 917 didn´t work. It was freezing cold at night. I just had a really thin coves and no extra one. So I couldn't do anything to warm me up. The room looked really old and i didn´t felt comfortable. The fridge was working but didn´t looked that good on the inside.

The place was very dirty and run down. The washrooms were horrible. The only good thing was the cardio room and the pool that you could use for free. If you stay here, I recommend to use the change rooms and showers in the basement instead of the ones on the guestroom floors.

If we could use WiFi in my room (8th Floor), my evaluation might changed to excellent. However, all facilities were clean and good. It was also good for me to be able to use laundry.

Women's shower was not clean, but my boyfriend was positive about the cleaniness of the male shower room (3rd floor). Security was very strict, so that it was not possible to take visitors into the hotel, which I found really good. Some negative remarks as well; having to pay to put the suitcases away before your flight. Overall it's a good hotel, and the location is nice.

I'll definatly be back to this hostel. I enjoed that I had my own private room. It was nice to come in of an evening and not having to stress about waking people. Bathrooms were always clean. Beds were made and towels replaced every day (provided you had vacated the room before the cleaners came through.) If you're looking for a social hostel, this isn't for you. Nice clean as I said before I'll be back.

I stayed at the Vanderbilt YMCA (private room) between Dec 23rd 2011 to Jan 1 2012. I booked the first 8 nights through hostelworld. My trip was last minute and I could not find affordable accommodations. I was happy to find the YMCA. The rooms are small, the heater makes funny noises at times which can annoy a light sleeper but it was alright with me. The staff were friendly and hardworking. Housekeeping was good. The bathrooms were clean. The internet connection was good. Never had problems.
