What I enjoyed the most in the hostel was its location pretty much close of everything that I wanted to see.

We were a bit aprehensive to stay at this hostel as we had read some unflattering reviews...NO idea why. The YMCA is a FANTASTIC place to stay. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The rooms were a decent size, with a desk, hanging space and a TV (had cable). The biggest plus was the huge gym that all of the guests could use free of charge. Plenty of places to go out to eat nearby also, we'd reccomend Uncle Paul's, great italian.

If uou're looking for a place to stay and you're on a budget, this is perfect. Yes the room is quite small, but who goes to NYC to stay in their room? The showers were on the same floor and were clean. There was also someone at the front desk for security.

I arrived early in the morning and I had to wait 30 min to leave my bag. The lady had to verify my reservation before. When I came back she didn't even look at me! I was really disappointed by the lack of service concerning the front desk. Housekeeping, Security and Engineering department were really helpful and friendly. The good point is the location. Hair dryer are missing. Im disappointed by YMCA. Fortunately I was here to visit.

Picked up a private twin room for $54 or so for a night. Extremely good value. Holidaying/backpacking our way through the USA and were greeted late at night after just flying in to JFK a couple of hours earlier. The lady at the desk was exceptionally cheerful and made us feel welcome. Room is small, but TV worked well and all we really needed was a bed to crash in. Cleanliness was fine, overall very happy to have stayed. Only issue is WiFi not available in rooms.

WiFi hotspot was very unstable. I was able to connect only in 1 time from 10 attampts, inspite of signal strength was excellent. Seem to be a problem in routing software.

Although the location and the security service is very good, the lack of cleanliness of the place caught my attention. The first day I had to complain because my pillow and sheets were dirty and had hair. The sheets had not been changed. Also the room was swept, and remained so throughout my stay. I hope these comments help improve service, because I have a very bad impression and would not return to the same place.

Too expensive for the actual room you get which is very very small, a little bigger than the bed The washroom smells bad and dirty, the wifi doesn't work well, and the place looks pretty dull and grey. On the othet hand the location is pretty good, and the staff is nice. But i wouldn't. Recommend this place for more than 3 days

As soon as she saw that I use a wheelchair and have a service dog, the director of guest rooms, Janet, doubled the rate at which I'd reserved the single room, claiming that I had to pay for the second person that could have been in it! All this is totally illegal. It particularly violates the ADA: "Americans With Disabilities Act" of 1990, but is almost universal, anyway. She then got very offended when I called the police, sending huge security guards to forcibly remove me from the room.

The YMCA is more a sort of hotel, than a hostel. It's rooms are small and basic, but overpriced in my opinion. Staff is friendly and helpfull and the facilities are OK. If you like fitness or swimming, you can do this here (just show your room card).

This hostel is small but great. Very clean.the bunk beds are on wheels and when the top bunk person rolls over the whole bed rocks! Very funny if your trying to be quiet. Because my friend and I are in our mid twentys and wanting to party. The noise when from the young teens running around the corridor was annoying when we were nursing our hangovers. We moved to another place which was more adult days later and it was much more adult..Nothing wrong with this place apart from small rooms

Very good stay. Small rooms but works fine, since you spend most of your time exploring the city - not staying in the hotel. Good location. Would stay here again.

I stayed at a twin room and the room was really small. We barely had enough room to walk about after placing our luggage. To use the hair dryer after showers, you'll need to go down to the locker area, which will be closed after a certain time at night, so if you're coming back late at night, best to bring your own hair dryer for convenience. But it is one of the cheaper hostels around in the city with a good location - pharmacy, restaurants, banks across the street.
