This is not a place which I can call my cup of tea. Room is too small, tiny to the extent of shocking. Very inappropriate for money I paid. Public bathroom is not a good experience at this rate one can get much smarter rooms anywhere. Security staff is impolite to the extent of being labeled to be rude with the residents. Its too noisy a place to live, I will hardly return to this place.

This place is ideal if you're simply looking for a bed in a place that's secure, clean and reasonably central. However, it's not really a hostel in several ways - there are no organised activities, there is not kitchen, and no real hostel character. So if you're looking to meet people probably not the best place.

The location is great, so close to all the sightseeing attractions. The staff is great and very friendly. We stayed in room 605 and during the night a weird knocking noise appeared that was really loud and made it almost impossible to sleep. I think that the noise came from the heat.

I was in the 6th floor. In my opinion, the worst are the staff; people that attend public were rude and impolite and I've felt bad treated. The window in my room didn't close well, and there was a hole between it and the air-conditioned installation. There are only three showers for a lot of rooms amd one of them was out of order! So there was only two, in fact :( I think that the building needs to be reformed. All is so old that it's uncomfortable :(

The Vanderbilt was a great place to stay - awesome location, clean room, comfortable and wonderful staff. The private bunk rooms are very small but sill sufficient. Bathrooms relatively clean. Guests can access the huge gym and pool which is a massive bonus.

A good place for a budget trip. Room is small but all facilities are fully equipped. Staff issue is ok, some are friendly and helpful, some are just look cold and do their jobs. Cleaness issue is also ok, room service everyday. For the issue of lacking of shower rooms, yes, for each floor there are only 3 shower rooms for each gender, definitely will be not (clean) enough in busy season. Location and price are the best factors for this place, front desk security checked the card all the time.

+ Perfect located in Manhattan. Free to use the gym (free weights, treadmill, crosstrainer) - Very very dirty room. A horrible place to meet others. I can´t understand why they have carpet floor, its get extremly dirty!

This is a decent place to stay and a great bargain for New York City. I never had to wait for a shower and the place seemed reasonably well-equipped and clean. Staff is friendly and helpful and security at front desk is very good.

No private bathroom available, which is unexpected. No wifi in your room. So small the room for you to turn around with your big package.

I believe that it has too many rooms for such small amount of bathrooms. Also because of that they were never clean. The bedroom is good, simple and small but really good, it was also not that clean, but not so bad as the bathroom.

What do you expect? This is Manhattan! Very good location and fairly ok cleanliness already worth the money. They do clean the room and change towels and sheets everyday although I saw hairs and dusts under the bed and around corners. Staff are mostly super friendly. Extremely safe place to stay. Guests get access to the gym and pool [only with a swimming cap on] at the same time which I was only informed at the very last day of stay.

This hostel was more like a hotel but with community bathrooms. You have your own private rooms and there isn't as much interaction as other hostels I've been to (probably because its so big). It wasn't dirty but not super clean either. It was perfect for what I wanted, cheap place in a good location where I could shower and sleep after a long day. The only suggestion is to have a fold up luggage rack in the room because they are so small and there's not much floor space to put your bags on

The hotel was very nice and clean. Even though I cannot adjust the heater but over all I like to stay in this hotel. The hotel location is great. You should stay here in New York if you have budget constrain, good value for money.

"Suitable" is a good expression to describe the YMCA Vanderbilt. You shouldn't have high expectations but just enjoy the low rates. The rooms are tiny, the shared bathrooms alright. But there is wifi, you can walk to Times Square and Central Park and public transportation brings you to all the other destinations in town. They offer shuttle service to all three airports. It is certainly not the best location in town but I would choose it again.

The place is well organized and secure, with access to gym etc. included in the price. Staff was nice and helpful, and the social work of YMCA presented on boards - appreciated. But the rooms are very small with not very comfortable bunk beds. It is difficult to find anything at a decent price in NY and budget hotels in same price range in Manhattan had bad reviews on booking.com, while this hostel had good reviews, so I guess this was good value for money, but didn't feel like that.
