Wow !!! I definitely love this place. Could have a kitchen ... :( The fitness is awesome !!!! With pool, sauna and steam. It was not my first time there and for sure it won't be the last one. Keep going ...:)))i

Overall i thought vand ymca was perfect for us, cheap, clean, great location walking distance from grand central. Free access to ground floor gym is also a bonus. Communal showers not an issue as always free and kept v.clean. wouldnt say staff were rude, maybe not as openly friendly as other hotels i have been too. however must give a shout to Serena who was amazing at reception, funny and super friendly (quite cute also!). Thumbs up for ymca!

my room was across from the woman's bathroom, I thought it would be a problem but the rooms are very sound proof-or else your clients are very considerate-EXCEPT for a very loud and drunk group of girls who woke me up on Sunday morning around 2 or 3 a.m.--I could hear them throwing up in the bathroom--kind of left an icky taste in my mouth! glad I brot my wash cloth, shower sandels, ear plugs (for those early morning 'girls') and a pillow case that I stuck my down vest in as a second pillow..

My friend got her phone stolen from here and security (well that is what they call themselves) didnt want to know about it. It wasnt until we approached the head cleaner that he questioned people and did something about it. The location is good though and it was always super clean.

Rooms were tiny, wifi doesn't work in the room (you have to sit in the corridor near the elevator to use it, or use their computers for $12/hr), there's no kitchen or facilities, there's no common room and it's seriously overpriced for the service provided. The staff acted like you were disturbing them whenever you had to interact with them and weren't helpful. They need to learn that WE are the customers paying their wages. Also 86 rooms on a floor and only 2 toilets.

Not bad - location is excellent, room was adequate and it was odd that a floor of 40+ rooms had 3showers and 2 toilets per sex per floor! We were told there was a kitchen, only for that to be revoked (after a supermarket visit (luckily only for cereal!)) as it is only for student use. Our door stuck, so needed to be closed firmly manually otherwise it was unlocked. Location though! Just a few minutes walk from Grand Central, Central Park, Times Square, 34th St, Empire State..really good value!

Love the Y, but concierge service lagged. I needed to get to La Guardia after the marathon on Sunday. Concierge suggested subway to 125th, M60 to LGA to avoid marathon route and delays. Except that when I arrived at 125th street, the M60 was delayed and rerouted due to marathon running along 125th street. I should have done my own research, instead I trusted the YMCA concierge. Good customer service isn't guessing, but researching and finding out the right info.

The worst place I have ever stayed at, the room was tiny, we stayed for 8 nights and the room wasn't cleaned at all. the shower didn't work, the staff was really rude and NOT service minded. No kitchen, the computers/printers didn't work. I could go on forever, the ONLY good thing about this place is the location and the staff should at least learn how to smile...

It was a great expirience stay at YMCA. Besides the fact some ladies in reception are be a little rude, the others guys from stuff are very kind and helpfull. The place is very good and the prices are very faire.

This was my first time staying @ the Vanderbilt and would, w/out hesitation, stay again. Most impressive was the cleanliness of all the areas: Lobby, Bedrooms, Bathrooms, etc. Thanks

I think people were making too much of a drama here, I've been in other hostels elsewhere and I have to say this one is not dirtier or the staff less friendly than in the others. The rates were ok considering location, room and the rates at other hostels . Not a place to meet people if that's your aim but the hotel was good enough for me to recommend it to anyone on a low budget in Manhattan.

The surface of the bedroom is smaller than a penitentiary cell, the bed quality is less than average, the restrooms are quite distant, the wi-fi connection is extremely weak and in fact almost useless. This costed me 90$/night, which I suppose is good value for NYC, but did not feel like that. The position is quite good for midtown Manhattan, but if one is not really so interested about that area, then - as they say - one better forgets about it.

This was the worst hostel I have ever stayed in. Our booking was incorrect when I got there, our wifi access was cut off a day early, my swipe card had to be re-programed almost every day, the room was tiny, the showers were filthy, the cleaner moved my chocolate onto the heater while I was out, so it melted. You couldn't control the heating and it was so hot. Some staff were polite but others were extremely rude and unhelpful at front desk. It also cost twice as much as everywhere else I stayed
