The staff was extremely nice and personable, but sadly that didn't quite make up for the lack of cleanliness or the overwhelming feeling that something bad had happened in our room years before we got there. It's a great location, but I don't think I would stay here again.

The location is really priceless, the staff at the reception were really nice and helpful. They were very accommodating as I arrived too early for my check-in and asked to store luggage, get a towel and call a shuttle for a friend who was not staying in the hostel. If you are looking for a guided tour of L.A., I would not recommend the one that they offer you in the hostel (at least not the one L.A. by night). It is not the hostel's fault though! The company offering the tourjust wasn't too good

The whole place could have done with a fresh coat of paint, but it was clean, cheap and friendly. Plus the women's dorm I was staying in had a beautiful sea view!

The staff were very friendly and keen to help. The area seems intimidating when you first get there, but is actually quite safe and wonderful to watch. The atmosphere on the beac was just amazing. There is also cheap transportation. Dry close by, although it does take almost 40 minutes to get into Hollywood.

The location here was excellent, right on the beach. It was clean and the staff were really helpful. The wifi is paid and not great but there are Starbucks and other wifi places within walking distance that have good free wifi. The kitchen is not amazing (stove consists of two portable electric burners), but if you are not doing anything to complex or just doing breakfast and microwave stuff it is good. I definitely recommend staying here for the location and cleanliness alone.

Well I just stayed in Venice Beach Cotel for three nights! And I really enjoyed it! Very friendly and helpfull stuff! No matter what question I had they helped me to find an answer! Very clean for a hostel that hosts so many people! (2 bathrooms for one floor is not many, but okay). Directly located at the beach and free parinking in the direct neighbourhood (staff is very helpfull there)! Security could be improoved (no lockers in my room, had to / could leave my stuff at the reception...).

For me this was the best hostel I have staying in in a long time! It is functional and super clean, the location is great, though Venice is a little sketchy at night so the good security on the hostel door was very reassuring. The staff are lovely, I felt safe and happy there, I would defo go back.

Only downside was that you had to pay for wireless internet. In this day and age wireless really should be free at a hostel

The staff taks a very good care of their guests and try to make everyone feel like home - or somethink like that ;-) What I liked most was that everybody can hang out at the bar in the evenings und that people that seemed strange were not allowed as guests. Especially for backpacker it is a great place to stay.

no wifi which is pretty standard anywhere else in the world, not even a computer to pay for internet, rooms are fine, lockers in room were large enough to put laptops and small bags. very small common area, well overpriced for nothing much but theres few options in LA and venice, whole beach is on curfew after 9pm so nothing is open nearby, but during the day if its sunny venice is cool to hang out

unfortunate they didnt have free wifi, but you could use the restaurant downstairs, so more of an inconvenience. staff were really helpful and had great personalities and were super helpful with any navigational questions. generally good time. laundry mat is quite far away

I enjoyed my stay at the Cotel, the area is slightly dodgy and I didn't go out after dark but everywhere in Venice Beach is the same, you just need to have your wits about you. The hostel itself was pleasant and I recommend the tour of Hollywood if you've got limited time too.

Very good hostel, clean and safe, directly located at Venice Beach. Staff was very helpful. Only minus: they charge $7 per day for wi-fi.

Fun, friendly hostel with staff that go out of their way to please. Situated right on the beach. Very clean, they even changed my sheets with crisp new ones every day of my stay. Highly recommended.
