The staff was really helpful and nice, especially the new guy who tried super hard to help even though everything was new to him, thank you! :) 16 bed mixed dorm was quite peaceful and a nice experience. Take some lock with you for the locker/to tie your bag to your bed. The surrounding of the hostel was not nice, I did not feel comfortable to go out from the door alone... Athmosphere in the hostel was good, many clean bathrooms but too small fridges and not so good kitchen facilities.

Hey!! I will let Andrzej know that you appreciated his help! Our surrounding often seem unsecure, it is mostly because we are situated in one of the oldest part of the city, some buildings are empty and are to be renovated. The whole neighbourhood will be in the years to come! Glad to know you had a nice experience with us.

Great place to stay, very helpful staff, and right near the old port where most of the tourist action is located.

There was virtually no security. The door to the dorm doesn't lock and during the day the door to the hostel is open so any one off the street can walk right into the dorm room, also the lockers in the dorm don't work with small pad locks you need a giant one in order to lock anything in the lockers. The atmosphere at the hostel was good though and staff were nice. Kitchen wasn't great, there were only 2 or 3 forks to use... The neighbourhood around the hostel wasn't the nicest either!

Hi, Not everyone off the street know that there is a room on the other side of the intern courtyard, everybody entering the hostel goes through reception and if we see someone wondering around, we check who they are. We never had troubles with theives in this big dorm. I'm sorry you got this feeling because we do put all our energy in being careful with the people staying is the hostel.

Very good hostel, great location from the train station with a friendly atmosphere. Could do with lockers just for peace of mind with bags and money. Other wise a really nice and relaxed atmosphere

Owner Comment (Hide)
Hey! We tried to put lockers, but there was not much space left in the room. Maybe you didn't know but we have a safe at reception for money and valuables. Hope you enjoyed your stay anyway!

Wifi was good but a lot more effort needs to be put into the kitchen if more than one person wants to use cutlery at the same time

Owner Comment (Hide)
Hey! We are so sorry that you had trouble using our cutlery. We buy more of it every other week. People seem to leave with them often... We hope you had a nice stay anyway! All the best

Really nice owner to chat to, very quick check in/check out. Less than 5 minute walk to the train station so it was perfect for us as we were basically using the hostel as a stop between other cities. Really secure, front door was locked and you couldn't take room keys out which we thought ensured more security. Stayed in a 4 bed dorm with shared ensuite, was really clean and tidy and wasn't absolutely boiling. Great atmosphere outside, but the bar was a bit expensive (€5 for pint of Heineken).

Owner Comment (Hide)
Hi, Thank you soooo much for this great review. Just one little think, pints of Heineken are 4€... ;) Hope to see you soon!!

The hostel was very beautiful in relationship at the standard of France, that isn't too high compared with Germany or other countries of Europa, mais ca va! The position isn't too safe if you are coming from the Vieux Port and you are a girl, but if you want to stay near the Gare Saint Charles it's perfect. The personal is very kind.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the vertigo centre! We loved the use of kitchen which meant we were eating out less, the bar sold cheap alcohol which is great as alcohol is not allowed in the premises if brought in. The rooms are now slightly outdated compared to pictures, air con consisted of a fan....disappointing. The room we stayed in was very small and cramped although you did get a big bathroom which was great. Staff very friendly. Area a little rough to walk around during the night.

the only downfall to this hostel is Marseille itself! bit of a sketchy neighborhood, but very convenient to the train station!

I stayed at this hostel twice, the first time in a room for 10 and another one for 4. It was ok value for money. The hostel is very close to the train station, but a bit far from the port, however still in the walking distance. The stuff was very friendly and helpful. The common areas were fine. Good internet, comfortable beds, fine showers and toilets. The fridge is a bit small for so many people. Rooms are not super clean, but still ok. There is a bar and a yard to sit outdoors.

I think the hostel should install a fan in each room because summer is quite hot

Hey! You are so right, July was too hot, even for us. Just so you know, it is absolutely not a normal weather and temperature. They already went down and everything is MUCH BETTER now! Thank you for your nice comment!!

Aside from a bunk bed that could use some more cross-bracing, this place was great.

Thank you! We are very happy to know that you had a nice stay with us.

Really near from station and nice staff.

Excellent staff. Nice atmosphere. I was in a single room on the top floor. It had a balcony with a nice wiew. The hostel has a nice bar and cool common areas, good for hanging out and socialaizing. The neighbourhood is a bit rough, but if you take your precautions and listen to the advice from the staff, everything should be all right. The location is otherwize excellent:, 3 minutes form the train station, 20 minutes from the Vieux Port, which is the heart of Marseille.

Owner Comment (Hide)
Hey!! Thank you for your nice comments. The neighbourhood seems to be rough you are right, mostly because it is one of the oldest of the city. And you are totally right, if you take precautions, nothing happens!! Again, we thank you for staying with us.

Pro: - Very charming hostel - Cleanliness - Respectful/mature guests - Great staff Cons: - No locker in the rooms - No common shower available outside (late arrival, etc.) - Breakfast fee a bit expensive (e.g. an option coffee+juice+1-2croissant-etc could be offered for 3euros)

I loved the staff, all of them were very kind and helpful. The matress in our beds were excellent. The room was clean. The kitchen would need to be a bit more furnished.

If you want to find someplace to sleep for just one night near train station, this hostel may be suitable. But if you want to do sightseeing, this hostel is not a good one as poor security of the room (no keys and door of room never closed), crowded spaces, unhelpful staffs and long distance from the centre of city.
