Paper thin walls between the private rooms means you can hear everything your neighbors are up to! Plus the shared bathroom wasnt cleaned very often nor very well. Chose the twin private room, and it was smaller than a prison cell. Was one twin bed with a matteress underneith, and one cannot stand in the room once matress is pulled out. There was only one small window in the room, as well, so very uncomfortable and cramped. Hostel is R$15/ 1 hour on the bus from Copacabana and Ipanema and Lapa, so you are pretty far from anywhere you would want to go on a shorter stay. Rude staff, also could not provide change. Bathroom reeked of urine and had not been cleaned in ages. Mattresses are thinnest I've used (my 16th hostel so far this trip). No hot water in either of tthe 2 showers I took (and only one men's and one women's shower). Location is good if you like Botafogo, otherwise a bus/metro ride to Copacabana or Ipanema. Breakfast was spartan and not worth getting up for. Internet is not free. About as much character as my grandmother's wardrobe.Rude staff, also could not provide change. It`s a great experience to stay at vila carioca.The only thing bothering mewas that they did not clean the toilet once in a period of 4 days.from the medical point of view that I represent,this was devastating, but if you`re ok with cold shower and stinky toilets,you will have your fun there.the ambient is good!It`s a great experience to stay at vila carioca.The only thing bothering mewas that they did not clean the toilet once in a period of 4 days.from the medical point of view that I represent,this was devastating, but if you`re ok with cold shower and stinky toilets,you will have your fun there.the ambient is good!...Close

Not as good as I expected from reviews. Staff was relatively helpful. Only felt really comfortable dealing with one of the five at the persons working the front desk. As expected, showers were not clean and in fact were down-right nasty. Not a picky person, but it def. detracted from the experience. Private room was not great, but livable. I'm not sure I would recommend to others, but I don't have another hostile to compare it to. Shower water temp cool at best. Near metro. B-fast was ok.Not as good as I expected from reviews.
