Beautiful house with great scenery and unique atmosphere just a stone's throw away from the heart of Santa Teresa + delicious breakfast! Thank you Manu and Zaba!

Great quiet location in easy reach of city center: excellent hostess - what else could you need?

We enjoyed our stay and loved the breakfast in the morning

Amazing place - really big airy house, with a pool and a massive garden. However you pay a price for this. We found various taxi's won't go up to the guest house (for various reasons including safety) so your either walking (which doesn't feel safe at night) or getting the bus at the top of the hill (that runs less and less the later it gets). We both didn't realise that the owners of the guesthouse, their child, and the chef all live there. So at times, you feel as if you are intruding.

Friendly homestyle atmosphere

The hostel is pretty clean and cozy. very good location, right behind largo dos guimaraes. However, there's no hostel atmosphere. very expensive

Thanks to Zaba, Manu and Ignazio! Very beautiful house and excelent service! The neigbourhoud is very friendly too! We would definbitly go back! xxx Vero, Alfonso and Juliette

Plus: it's a good place and peolpe are very nice. Breakfast is much above average and of flexible hours (which is good when u wake up late after a long night) Minus: location is a problem, especially to convince taxi drivers to take u there!

This is a beautiful family owned bed and breakfast in a wonderful part of Rio. The home is a dream, and the location is a more interesting choice over touristy copacabana/ipanema. It's located in a beautiful artsy area about a ten minute walk down to central Rio and the subway. The area is very charming and matches the vibe of the house and family perfectly. I highly recommend Vila Casanova. The private room with ensuite was magical. I can live on the balcony forever! Thank you!!

We enjoyed our stay very much. Saba was very helpful and Manni did his best to communicate in English- much better than we could in Portugese! Breakfasts were relaxed and very adequate and the kitchen staff were lovely. The beds (single) were not comfortable, and the fan problem did not get fixed during our stay, but I am sure they will be by now.

Owner Comment (Hide)
Thank you Evelyn for your kind comments. This room is usually only rented with a double bed even as single or double and we know the twin configuration (with an extra bed) is not very comfortable but we are working to change this. Regarding the ceiling fan, we are really sorry for the inconvenience and for not being possible to fix it during your stay. We have alreay changed the fan and now there's a brand new one installed in the room.

staying at vila casa nova was great, manu and zaba are more than helpful and the rooms are very clean and comfortable. loved it so much going to stay there again before getting the flight out of rio!

This is an amazing place that really suites couples. It's like a home away from home. As everyone has mentioned the breakfast is beyond good, the staff are amazing, and in terms of location, you really couldn't ask for more. Highly recommended !!!!

If you want to discover life away from the beaches of Rio, then this is the place to stay. The owners are awesome at helping you enjoy your time in Rio with booking trips and recommending places. While we stayed there, they are dance classes which we joined in (despite being completely useless at it compared to the Brazilians, they helped us to learn). The location in old Santa Teresa is a different but worthwhile experience in Rio, especially is you want to access some of the culture. Access to the beaches in the South Zone is easy; take the tram (bonde) down to Carioca station and then catch the train. And the views from this place!! Loved it!

Staying at the Villa Casanova was a fantastic experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the villa was beautiful and being in Santa Teresa with the bonde (tram) nearby is the best way to explore Rio. I highly recommend this place.
