The Gardens is an impressive hostel. Their new location called "the beach" is more centrally located, but the Gardens is a nicer location as far as the actual hostel is concened. Both offer free wifi and computers for guests use, as well as a great breakfast and good atmosphere for taking a break from being out in the city.

I absolutely loved Villa Exupery! I am a vegan and had an awful time trying to find anything vegan in France but they had organic cereal and soymilk every morning for breakfast! The staff was great and I met lots of good people while there. They also throw good parties. Definitely recommend- probably the best hostel I've ever stayed in.

Pros- staff were very interactive, clean rooms, safe lockers in the rooms, shuttle service to nearest tram station, luggage room. Cons- far from city centre and the beach. 30 minute walk from hostel to the beach, or take a tram for 1 euro ticket.. around 15 minutes

Terrible location on top a hill which is several kms. from downtown. Shuttle from hostel to tram/bus stop only goes 8-12 PM and 6-12AM. In between you have to take a taxi, or climb the hill up or down. Some rude staff. Room was freezing cold. Room was not cleaned during my entire 4-day stay. Breakfast so-so: lots of cereal and bread. Reception is outdoors. You stand in the cold and talk to people 3 feet away from you inside the building. Very unwelcoming.

This place has a great bar with great, friendly staff and lots of cheap drinks and food. Only downfall is it is a bit far out from the beach and city centre.

The parking lot is a bit small and the entrance is too narrow. We love this hotel though, next time I'll try the one in central Nice if I don't drive

The hostel is located out of town, but the hostel runs an excellent frequent shuttle service to the tram stop. It's a party hostel. Meals and drinks are cheap and good. Lockers are only big enough for valuables, not luggage.

Amazing hostel. My favorite, by far. The employees are fantastic, speak multiple languages, are so personable and really went above and beyond. So clean, and great breakfast included. AND coffee and tea all day. There is no better in Nice. Will be back in the summer without a question!

Really nice hostel! Great atmosphere! Had everything you could want in a hostel, and they even do your laundry for you (7 euros). Rooms were good, but my dorm didn't have storage lockers. Great guest kitchen for use, and delicious dinners cooked ea. night for 7 euros! Lots of outdoor excursions run through the hostel in high season, but most were closed this time of year which was a little disappointing but understandable. Took about 15/20 min on the tram to get to the train station/old city.

Good hostel. I like that it is not in the city center. Seems to me a bit poorly organized though, in the 4 times I stayed there, my reserveation was messed up twice, BUT the staff always found a very agreeable solution :) So all in all: definitely recommended. The place has greatly improved in the last couple of years, if they keep going like this it will be just perfect by 2013 :)

Absolutely worthy of its "Famous Hostel" status. Great place to meet fellow travelers, explore the French Rivera, and just have an incredible time overall! Notice there are 2 locations: Up on the hill (the "Gardens") and by the beach. The Gardens location is larger and much more lively. The beach one is better situated. only complaint: everyone seems to speak English instead of French, even though the hostel is in Nice, France.

Location is in the middle of nowhere, and even from the nearest tram stop it is quite a walk, mostly uphill. Shuttle service is not as promised. Rooms are average. There was no wifi in mine - another false promise... There is a great bar/restaurant where it's easy to meet people. That was the highlight of the trip, until around midnight the very unpleasant, arrogant hostel owner showed up to tell everyone to keep it quiet... So much for the character. Overall, I wouldn't stay again.

Loved the shuttle to the tram, the wi-fi, the OUTSTANDING staff and owners. Hot water for tea was very hot and DID NOT taste like coffee. Good breakfast and dinners. Great bar
