Front desk was extremely unwelcoming, unclear, didn't give/tell us about second room key for gate. Bathroom was gross and dirty and I've travelled all over Asia and Europe.

Only one of three staff members treated guests with respect. The other two were rude at best. Location was great, but hostel provided little in terms of advice for trips, etc.

this place is literally one block from the beach main beach strip, stuck between the Hyatt and the rest of the luxury hotels... a former motel with the motel rooms converted to quads, chilled-out vibe like a secret hole-in-th-wall kind of place, since they're always fully booked by web and don't even have a street sign. (lux hotels don't want a hostels sprouting up in the area) Proprietor 'Charles 'is a friendly guy and keen host, pops in for a beer Wednesday to meet everybody... great spot!

This place is hard to find but once you are there it's great, very chill and easy going. The owner is involved and most of the staff are great. It's only a few mins to the beach and you can walk to Diamond Head, great stay!

Staffs are very friendly and atmosphere is great. If I have chance to go back to Hawaii, I would definitely stay there!

Hostel was fun. Free beer nights on Tue and Saturdays were cool. The common area was fairly small and quiet hours start at 10pm. You don't have to be as quiet on the opposite side of the hostel. I had a lot of fun at this hostel, but it always depends on the people you meet. The staff were fun and accommodating. Beachside is more of a party hostel. Location wise it was perfect. A block away from the beach. Make sure you can pay for a parking spot before you get your rental car only a few spots.

I had a great time at Backpackers! The staff was very friendly, curteous, helpful and organized. They cooked an amazing dinner, provided a clean and homey environment. I met people from all over the world and had a blast! Wish I could've stayed longer. I would highly recommend this place!

Owner needs to figure out a better check in program as check in can take up to an hour if not more and is VERY inefficient. Otherwise GREAT staff, GREAT atmosphere and GREAT location.

Best staff I ever met.. we stayed for 2 weeks and made lifelong friends. Free pizza and beer nights as well as Thanksgivinng dinner cooked for us and another dinner just cos the owner 'felt like it'. Can't complain. Nightly shuttles run to the best bars in hostel van. Twice we were overheard talking about wanting to go on an excursion (once snorkelling and once to North Shore) and both times the owner Charles said if we could get enough people we could go in the van cheaper than any other tour.
