The "vaccination shots", as invented and administered by the hostel's genial and creative host are a welcome and tasty way to start an evening's polite revelry. As well as being surprisingly delicious, they claim to work as protection against the threat of yellow fever, dengue fever and malaria - possibly by making mosquitos flee in disgust at the levels of alcohol on offer by the jolly vaccinated person. Unfortunately, excess can induce the same reaction from friends and passers by.

great hostel with a friendly staff and good breakfast. The beds are stacked 3 high so if you are on the very top it can be a bit of a climb. Because the beds are 3 high the rooms tend to be a bit cramped with not much room for luggage and there are not enough bathrooms. Other then too many people for the space it is a great hostel.

Staff were very helpful, Priscilla helped us whenever we needed some direction and the hostel was always clean. Only downside was the tiny rooms with 6 people squeezed in- very little room for bags! The shower was not often hot either.

Owner Comment (Show)
Dear Tom Walter, Thank you for your review. There is hot water in all our showers. It might be unusual for a few to operate electrical showers and that is why we offer instructions to anyone who needs help operating them. We wish you would have said something. Our 6 bed dorm is spacious, but since it is a dorm, free space often relies on who is shraing the room with you. Our cleaning staff cleans and organises the rooms several times a day. Thanks again for your review.

I stayed at the hostel for nearly a month. Great location, great price, really safe and the staff are amazing! From the bartenders to the janitorial staff everyone is really nice, helpful, and makes the stay very enjoyable. I recommend attending the sunday favela party and/or the monday boat party..thank me later

I had great fun in the hostel. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Together with the nice people also staying in the hostel it felt like a big family there. The bar is nice if you want to get in contact with the others and have a nice evening. Security is not special in the rooms, but the entrance is controlled. I would defenetly go there again.

Very friendly and helpful staff, yummie breakfast! Hostel is always locked and you have to present your hostel ID to get in, I always felt safe there. I stayed 4 nights right before I went back home and it would always return. Very good and reasonably priced option for a stay in Rio!!

It is the best hostel I have ever stayed in Rio. The hostel staff is excellent: There are two very friendy and attractive Brazilian ladies at the reception, Priscilla and Acacia, who were at my full disposal any time I asked them. They helped me out with all my questions, e.g. my further travel planning or information about where to go in the City of Rio. They both speak very well English. The same counts for Dominik, a guy from Switzerland, who is really outstandingly friendly and helpful.

The hostel is very well located, 4 blocks to the beach and very near the bus stops and a lot of shps around. The staff is very friendly and helpfull. the only thing is that the breakfast should start earlier because to go out to visit the attractions in rio you need to go as earlier as possible,so that limit your plans. but i recommend it.

Amazing staff. Never experienced something like this before. Really helpful, smiling all the time and they even helped me in a difficult situation, which not many if any hostels at all would have done. I'd be happy to come again!

Walk On The Beach is a great hostel. The staff are really helpful and friendly and made me feel really welcome in Rio. I had stayed there while I was searching for a place to live in Rio and I spoke no Portuguese. They went out of their way to help me find a place and to help me start learning Portuguese. Dominique makes a delicious caipirinha as well. Be sure to have him or Eder make you one.

Close to copacabana beach but not a lot else. Nightlife in ipanema and lapa are taxi rides away. Its a small hostel with a nice family feel though, free breakfast is a bonus and the staff are really helpful. Would definately recommend if you want to stay close to the beach although if you want to be closer to more nightlife ipanema or leblon are better choices

I had a really nice stay at Walk On The Beach, so good in fact I came back to finish my holiday here. It has an excellent atmosphere and is really fun without being to hectic. The staff are really friendly and helpfull and really made my stay. It is in a good location just a few minutes from the beach. If I come back to Rio I would definately come back here again.

We loved this hostel. It is right near Copacabana beach. The staff are lovely and really helpful. There's always something going on in the evenings. The beds do take a little getting used to, but once you do they are fine.

We had a fantastic time at the Walk on the Beach Hostel. The staff were absolutely fantastic and were so willing to help organise activities for each day or night. The entire place was so clean, from top to bottom. And when we wanted to, it was easy to relax and chill out with either other people at the hostel or even just chatting with the staff. Thanks so much to all the staff there they made it all the more enjoyable for our stay.
