Staff were very friendly. Breakfast was good although it wasn't included. Room. sheet, blanket, toilets and shower room were really clean. Location was slightly far from the main area but not that too far.

Good Hostel, friendly staff, easy to find. Only problem was there was only one toilet on the floor which was always in use.

The nice things first: The hostel is an old building and it is beautifully furnished with golden mirrors and small chandeliers etc. It has an alternative vibe which seems likeable at first sight. However, there was mould in my room, the air humidity was rather high and the heating didn't work very well in the 4th floor (no stairs, of course). When I asked the staff about the mould, he told me that there isn't any mould in the hostel. The wifi didn't work either.

Out of city centre location but next to U Bahn stop, supermarket close by, personal locker and luggage storage, comfy beds, small but working kitchen, nice staff, clean sheets and finally very comfortable showers. Working Internet in lobby only.

The staff are lazy beyond reason. Twice my friends (who are in their 60's) came to pick me up at the hostel and twice the staff were too LAZY to walk up one flight of stairs and notify me. Instead my friends drive back home 30min all the while l sat upstairs waiting for them . The male staff shrugged his shoulders and indicated to me... I don't f**king care - it's not my responsibility to notify you! My dorm were ALL students looking for accommodation in Koln so ZERO fun factor. One toilet only!

PROS: Timo and Christian are awesome fellas and helped me a lot, excellent showers and bathrooms, right next to a subway station, free wifi is decent, good lockers in rooms, has a laundry for 5euro, kitchen CONS: bit grubby, 30 mins walk from central station, a lot of non-backpackers there, hallway lights turn off automatically and frequently, breakfast is extra,

Hey, I have stayed for a week at this hostel, and this hostel is really amazing. The staff is so good and helpful that I never had any problems staying in Cologne. Added to that location is just next to tram, so it is very easy to travel elsewhere from this Hostel. Wifi was very good and the hostel is also very clean.

Not central location but just above the station. Reasonable price.

The hostel was nicely run and breakfast was really good (worth the 4 euro). Not much of a social atmosphere.

I would definitely recommend Weltempfanger. The neighborhood (Ehrenfeld) isn't exactly in the city center, but it's pleasant, diverse, and not touristy, and a short subway ride from some of Cologne's great "Viertels" (Belgisches Viertel, etc.) and the train station, tourist area by the Dom, etc. There's a funky cafe attached, the people who stay there tend not to be party types (thankfully), and the staff is extremely helpful. My only complaint is the one toilet per floor. The laundry is great.

Great hostel, abit out of the way but was nice! Couldnt use the washer and dryer at the same time, one load taking around 3-4 hours to finish.

The hostel is a little far from the main area, but is very easily accessible via the metro. The major downfall was having to share one toilet and two showers between 10 people on the first floor. Also, the appliances in the kitchen didn't all work and would trip the power to the oven.

One of the best hostel's I've been to. Great staff and cosy rooms with a really nice bar downstairs which serves coffee, breakfast, beer etc. Highly recommend despite a small walk to the city centre.
