The Youth Hostel is really cute. Very nicely decorated and very clean, everything looks very new (by 10. May 2013). The metro stop is directly in front of the Youth Hostel. The only BUT would be that it's not really in the city center but it has a really good connection, in 4 stops you are in the cathedral.

No wifi in the room. very clean and good price. Not a central location but there is a subway station at the hostel door that will take you to anywhere in Cologne.

I wish it were a little easier to change a reservation online! I had some difficulties when our party changed at the last minute. But we really enjoyed our stay once we got that sorted out.

I had a good time. The breakfast buffet was fantastic. I enjoyed walking to the downtown area, even if it took around 35min or so. The area Ehrenfeld is quite nice and would be awesome during the spring and summer. The luggage "room" was hilarious by clamping the luggage and having your luggage dangle in the air right by the café. The girls dorm had its own bathroom; although, with four girls, it was difficult to take turns. The drains of the showers were a little clogged with hair probably.

Great live music gig downstairs in the bar/cafe. Perhaps an upgrade of your door locks so they are self locking is required. Several times I came back to notice that the door was not locked because of another guest "forgetting" to lock the door when he left.

Good hostel with nice interiors right on the U-Bahn line. But, 20 euros 'key deposit' is too much and something that the Hostel management need to review. I have been to 85+ hostels all around Europe and this is the first time I have had to pay this amount.

Extremely friendly location — just at the U-Bahn entrance/exit. Well-equipped rooms and common areas. The major problem is the doors to the rooms — they need to be locked manually with a key. People often forget to lock them when going in, much more frequently when going out. I would at least suggest to place reminders on every door.

My first impression of the hostel was really good and the guy working at the reception when we arrived was great. On the down side, the toilets are right in front of the television room, which leaves you with little privacy. The water wasn't heating on the showers either, so that's another low. One of the guys working on the reception during the day on January 2nd and 3rd was terrible. He treated us bad and would enter our room without knocking, opening the windows without even asking.

This was my first Hostel ever. I was traveling through Germany on my way down to Italy and this was my first stop. I enjoyed it very much. The location is a quick 20 minute walk straight from the Cologne Hbf, you just stay on one street and keep on walking. The room was clean and warm (in December). There was free laundry on my floor as well, which was much needed. Over all it was a good experience.

Great Hostel! Very Clean, with nice facilities, located directly next to the U-bahn exit. Great Facilities (amazing shower!) and very clean. We were there for two nights on a busy pre-christmas weekend but never had the feeling of an overcrowded or loud hostel.

We had a great stay. Staff was very friendly and provided us with useful advice for what to see and visit in the city. Rooms were in top condition, private bathroom very clean. I'd recommend the Weltempfänger Backpacker Hostel to anyone visiting Cologne.

Only stayed for one night and therefore not much to experience at the hostel. Living room and kitchen seemed very nice, but were not used by us. Standard hostel rooms with toilet/shower. Nice staff.
