Room cleanliness was allright. But the bathroom were really disgusting, of all hostels I have ever been, this was the one with the worst bathrooms (toilets malfunctioning, bad smell, disgusting brown paper, dirty showers without door and hangers,...) I was on the tenth floor.

Although the single room was small, it was comfortable, has a TV (no remote control) and air conditioner. The shared bathroom was not clean.

I enjoyed my stay in the Westside YMCA The room is very basic, and the showers are cold, but for this price, 10 steps from Central Parc, almost on Broadway, you can not complain. I loved the facilities; free access to the pool and all fitness facilities (including lessons). I took a yoga glass and have been swimming every morning. The building is old, but I felt very safe. Only thing I missed was a common room to cook and meet other people! Staff is nice too!

The bedrooms and the ambience in the hostel are not great. It is fairly clean and the location is amazing. We are a couple and we couldn't get a private room with a double bed... Nevertheless I would stay there again

I was unable to stay at the West Side YMCA due to illness. I called and cancelled 2 days prior to my visit date. I could not find a way on Hostelworld's site to verify my phone cancellation. Perhaps you could improve your website to accomodate cancellations? Thanks, Pat O'Dougherty

Great location and the staff made me feel very safe and secure there. Some updates needed as far as quality of actual beds and a common kitchen area would be a great addition

YMCA West side is a nice place to be. Located perfect!! Off course the shared bathrooms isn't allways the most clean, but that depends on people who are using them. Me and my friend were very happy to stay there because we felt save, and that eas the most important thing for us. There is also free acess to the gym, also a very good thing.

The biggest problem for me was you are asking for an hour of arrival to the hostel. Well, I said 10:00 AM, thinking that i could have check in at this time ... Bad surprise, when I arrived the personn in the office told me that I could not check in before 2:30 PM ... 4 hours with bags in NYC ... This is not what you expect ...

The bathroom didn't have any aeration, so it was always very very hot and wet....Otherwise, the room was very small but clean. It is a very big hostel, since there is more than 10 floors, with like 50 rooms a floor, so don't expect to get some friends in it, it's too big ! The very good point is that we arrived early in the morning, with 6 bagages (the room was free at 2pm), and by 1dollar/bagage, they can keep it until you come back (vice versa for the last day)! The big plus is the location !

Hi! Thanks for this opportunity! As regards the restrooms, they are really clean. But, I was quite surprised of having problems with my key just an hour previous to my living and that my sheets were taken before I left the room. It really made me feel upset and a bit annoyed! I felt like been thrown out of the place as in hurry for me to leave the hostel. Regards, Carol

It's a great location for catching a subway because it's so close to Columbus circle. The staff was very nice and helpful. The only thing which could be improved was the door of the room, because you had to push it pretty hard to lock it all the way. All in all, an excellent place to stay :-)

The downside for me is that the Y doesn't have wireless in the rooms; wireless is only available on the lounge floor. I went to NYC to work, so, for me, no access to wireless in the room represented four days of lost opportunities.

$90/night (online) for a single. Most of that is because of the location. Quality of the rooms and helpfullness of the reception staff was poor. Room was small and very basic. The automatic light activation is a TERRIBLE feature as it activated when I moved in my sleep. Having said that the room was clean and had air con. I found out afterwards that as a guest that I had access to swimming pool and gym. Why was I not told this at check-in - very POOR. Shared toilets are passable at best.

On the 10th floor, there were problems with two washbasins and their plumbing in the women's bathroom.
