No kitchen, no shade/blinds on the window!, no access to the common room, no AC unless the room is half full, no useful map to get around, no western style toilet However very secure (you have to ring the bell to enter during the day), and very social layout
Comfy beds and clean facilities. It had a great common room and courtyard but there was no food or drink service (even though there was a bar with drinkables visible). We got coffee at some times of day but not others. The common room was really cold (early spring) but thankfully the rooms had extra heaters in them. This place has a lot of potential, meaning I would only stay there again if there was no other choice.
Open plan hostel oriented around a series of courtyard with a cool, relaxed vibe to it. If you're down to do touristy, old town-related stuff, then the location's good, otherwise expect a 20-30 rmb cab to the newer, more bumping parts. The place could use more sinks and toilet paper dispensers- in total I think saw 2 of each. Also wasn't super enthused about the showers being closed from 10:00 til the evening. If coming home late at night, the disgruntled gatekeeper might yell at you.
We booked three nights and stayed none. We arrived and there wasn't a double room available despite us booking and the website still showing available rooms. This was because in winter they close half the hostel... so put this online?! Also we arrived home the first evening and was told the large, spacious games room was closed in winter and all the facilities listed online we wanted, we unavailable. When question they attempted to charge us per hour to use the room. We demanded a refund & left.
We visited in winter, when the place felt a bit deserted (but I guess all Qingdao hostels would be like this in winter)! The owner is really nice, clean bedding all provided and lockers are available. You have to walk outside to go to the toilet, which in winter is not ideal. I can imagine that this hostel is absolutely fantastic in summer, as most of its facilities and social areas are outdoors. But perhaps worth looking at alternatives if going in winter.
The owner can't speak English but really helpful. The linen is included and they help me make a bed. If you go there in winter, they gives an elctric blanket. they said they clean the linen from a specialized company but the linen that i received had already stains on it. I was afraid of asking charge of it. They don't give any entrance key, so whenever you get in the gate. You should push the bell and wait until they open. It was quite annoying especially in the evening.
