Friendly staff who, while very busy, made an effort to help us in addition to remembering our names. They provide a limited list of suggested excursions, including hikes, and other outdoor activities. The hike we took had fairly limited instructions that we didn't succeed in deciphering. More detailed maps or clearer instructions (or just photos) would have been helpful. Be warned the newly renovated private room we stayed in included WC with entirely transparent glass walls (i.e. no privacy)

I stayed at This Old Place for two nights instead of one. I have to say, once i got off the bus at Xingping, I fall in love with this quite little town, unlike over commercialized Yangshuo, Xingping is a great place to relax. The staffs at the hostel are extremely helpful and friendly, they tried their best to let the guests make the most of their trip. They also organize some cycling and hiking trips around the town. The view from the rooftop is AMAZING!

We had a great stay in this hostel! Beautiful place, amazing roofterras, with WiFi! The staff is really friendly and looking after you! If you increase your daybudget, get one of the amazing pizza's that they make!

Fantastic location. I am a photographer and took a stab at this place, but was very happy to be here instead of Yangshuo. Definitely the right decision. Staff is good, building is newish, sister restaurant is good and the prices are not too bad considering how good the food is. Rent a bike and explore the surrounding farmlands! Also, I booked the bamboo trip through the hostel and initially thought I was getting ripped off but it turned out to be a very good deal (4hr trip!).

Wonderful location very near the river. The staff is very nice & the hostel is very well organized. Good suggestions for treks nearby, and movies at night are great, too.

I booked a basic double ensuite, bed was comfortable, room was clean. Nice view but no balcony in my room. Staff were nice at both the hostel and cafe. Location is great. They have two computers for use with VPN (to access censored sites in China). I thought the cafe was a bit expensive and food there was very average.

A very nice hostel, and very nice, knowledgeable, and helpful staff - and management!. They will take you on guided hikes into the amazing karst world. the only downside is the constant honking of passing tourist vehicles on the road. Not much the hostel people can do about, though.

Although we booked in February for accommodation in April, and also turned up with the confirmation email our room was not booked. Another couple there had the same problem. The staff managed to find us rooms, although the rooms were twin standard not what we had booked. They only charged us the twin room rate and were apologetic.

Perfect hostel to be submerged by the landscape of Xingping. Would return to spend at least a week there!

A much better option than staying in Yangshuo- this is a nice place located near the river and around the beautiful mountains. Rooms are clean, staff is friendly, they have a cafe - 5 minutes walk away with good food and it is a great place to base yourself and explore the region around. The rooms are very well priced for their size. Rooftop has great views.

Yup, this is how a hostel should be run! The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, rooms clean and cozy, rooftop with gorgeous views and great pizzas out of their oven. We were greeted with a map of the area and ideas for what to do in and around Xingping (which is way better than Yangshuo) and the staff even take guests on free guided walks in the area. Amazing, amazing place! I wish all hostels were like this one.

This was a pleasant place to stay. Some of the staff are helpful. One staff member just pushed a folder at me and said \'read this\' when I asked him a question. Fortunately another staff member was more willing to answer questions I had. I can\'t say anyone went out of their way to be helpful or friendly. The best thing about the hostel is the location and the access you have to exploring the area.

Pros: Great location, beautiful view from many rooms and from rooftop lounge area. Most of the staff was very friendly and helpful, especially Leo who helped us apply for our Vietnam Visas to have waiting for us in Nanning. Close to street restaurants where a huge plate of egg fried rice is only 6-8Y. Cons: WAY overpriced cafe in lobby (10in pizzas were 30Y+, pot of milk tea was 20Y!). One staff member was condescending and rude when we arrived, to the point where we almost left the hostel.
