The hostel was beautiful, away from city centre(not too far), so was quiet. I was only 1 in my room. Great kitchen, awesome hot shower, comfortable bed. Good stay, thanks.

On the whole as a first time user of YHA it was positive with only the creakiness of the stairs and floor boards and the noisy nature of young alcohol drinkers that were the not so positive side of the stay. The staff were friendly, helpful and the facilities were adequate. Kitchen facilities were great and sufficient cold fridge storage helped quite a lot during our 7 nights stay there.

I would have appreciated having a basin in the shower room to accommodate my needs. I found this useful at a recent backpackers. Altogether this YHA hostel was better value than the last backpackers we stayed at which was only $12 cheaper.

Highly reccommend! Great staff, awesome atmosphire. I stayed in the female dorm and meet 2 great new friends that i have stayed in touch with. Left my laptop and phone chargeing and food in the fridge no problems! The 2 Cats are characters and made it homely. Even watching Harry Potter and eating soup with everyone in the lounge was fun :) That was a great ending to my stay, all in our pjs and swapping stories.

It's a great place to stay when visiting Gisborne, but don't let the map mislead you. Don't let the map confuse you -- at the time of this writing, there is an error on hostelworld's "Maps and Directions" tab for this hostel. The map shows the hostel to be at the intersection of Gladstone Rd, and Peel St. -- which is INCORRECT. I have verified that the address is indeed 32 Harris St. It's about 3 blocks east of the main river, just south of Wainui Rd.

I was glad I picked the hostel for the night I needed to stay in Gisborne. Enjoyed making the acquaintance of the cats, too. (Er, assume the dryer in the gents is fixed...)
