Perfect backpacker stay at Mount Cook and the location couldn´t be any better. Not sure there´s much else to choose from in the area but this place has a good kitchen, a comfy TV room, good staff, clean rooms and goog bathroom facilities.

Poor value for $37. Clean, ok facilities. BUT they charge extra for pretty much everything, and staff is incredibly unfriendly. First hostel I've been to in 6 weeks of travelling that didn't have safe. Lockers cost $2, single use (so every time you take out something you have to pay again) and when I said I wasn't happy about that, I was told "Isn't your laptop worth more than $2?". Manager didn't want to let me use kitchen after check-out while waiting for bus and was also unfriendly to others.

Highly recommend to stay in Mt Cook Village, much closer than the nearby towns. This is one of the cleanest hostels I've stayed in and the wooden rooms are very cozy. Well equipped kitchen and large dining area. Friendly staff too.

great spot to stay, close to everything, lovely staff, great kitchen, great info on hikes in the area. I enjoyed sittng by the fire at night and chilling, would highly recommend staying at least two nights here as there is so much to do at Mt Cook, I did the Tasman Glacier walk (4hrs), hooker valley hike (2-3 hrs) and spent an afternoon at the Edmund Hiliary Centre which was great. Make sure to watch the Ed Hiliary Movie.
