Really cool place. Super nice staff, extremely knowledgeable about the are and even the rest of NZ. Stayed two nights and wish I could've stayed more!

note you need to pay for wifi here - $5 for 1GB. However it is right near national park. Round the corner from where the naked mana buses drop you off. Hostel was nice but I moved rooms because of the strong foot smell from its occupants. Not YHA's fault. They moved my room so no issue. Plug sockets were all grouped together at end of the room. Was cold at night so stole another duvet. No bag storage but clean kitchen and bathroom fine.

Place was ok, staff a little grumpy on check in. Beds comfortable but a little squeezed in, ended up playing footsie with my bunk mate in the middle of the night! Not a great deal of space in the room and no lockers. Wall between the kitchen and rooms VERY thin which was annoying at 5am when people were leaving for the crossing.

Quite a basic hostel but worth the money. Security lockers in the room would've been nice, but other than that it was pretty good!

Good location for tongariro crossing, otherwise a very basic hostel. No free wifi access, kitchen very dirty and only one cooker which is not enough for amount of people using the space. Rooms cold-need heater on full time. Bathrooms basic but functional (brig your own soap as there wasn't any when we stayed). Layout unusual. Only recommend staying enough time to do the crossing (beautiful) as there is nothing else in the area to do. Also bring food for cooking as no shops.

No lockers in rooms and not very clean. Good location and nice staff however there is a lack of atmosphere because there isnt a good comunal place to relax at the end of the day. Also having to pay for wifi is a pain!

The YHA is a great base for exploring the Tongariro National Park and they can organise transfers to the National Park each day. There's a good sized kitchen and eating area which was generally pretty clean. The living room area was a bit small and they charged to rent DVDs. The climbing wall is a useful activity for a rainy day, otherwise there's not a lot to do in town. The bedrooms were spacious, but having to go downstairs for the toilet and showers wasn't ideal.

Kitchen is a bit small for everyone to cook at the same time but comfy. We paid for the wifi and it was really good. Missed some more power sockets in the room.
