Exceptional location and staff...the building/facilities are in poor repair (paint, mold, things not working...). That being said the food and cleanliness were good. I'd stay again because of the location...if they do any alterations I would suggest adding a couple single rooms for our world's changing demographics.

Toilets and showering facilities need a complete face lift, several times we had issues with flushing toilets along with operating showers where most of the water ended on the surrounding floor rather than one's self. The room we were allocated was decent enough (room 2) however the bunk beds were a bit rickety and on several occasions we thought they were ready for collapsing, 3 people sleeping in the room would in my opinion be overcrowded let alone 4 which it has facilities set up for.

If you're walking Hadrian's wall, then the place is well situated, and a welcome stop off on the route. There is nothing else nearby apart from the pub, so make sure you stock up on snacks or any supplies you need before arriving. The staff are very good, and there are pack lunches provided on request for a fee, and dinners and breakfast as well. The place is very dated, but there is a new development soon. There is a drying room, and sinks in every room. Showers/toilets are few
