The best YHA stay I have had. The purple cow Wanaka is a real delight to stay in, pleasant, clean and well organised. The views from the sitting area are sublime, and is situated on a touchingly nice open park area. The prices for bike rental I thought were a tad expensive but everything else was way up there. Free Pool table and a warm seating arrangement meant that the atmosphere was really good. I would certainly fully recommend this hostel to anybody looking to stay or pass through the area.

We loved this hostel. It was very clean, with a huge well stocked kitchen. We had a 3 bed dorm which was in it's own little cabin with another 3 bed dorm, with a little kitchenette and bathroom and living room. There was also a big TV room and lovely wood fire in the communal area. Best hostel we stayed at in NZ, we'd definately stay here again!

I love the kitchen the most - very very spacious and clean! Great location - 2mins walk to the beach and the Main Street . However the room is a bit crowded. All in all I like the hostel. It has a very cozy lounge for people to socialize as well

Generally a good hostel but the rooms were quite small and the pilliows were very small therefore sometimes making sleeping uncomfortable.

We had to leave as the dorm room was too small for us and our bags. We weren't the only ones to complain about the dorm size- there really is no room! Far too hot in the rooms with no a/c. Rude staff when came to getting a refund and tried to charge us for the first night when it was a problem with their facilities, not a case of a no show. We were over-charged at check-in and took me to research the original price to rectify the mistake so always double check. Great location, stunning views.

I like it is near Wanaka Lake. There is a small kitchen in the room and a big public kitchen.Wanaka is quiet and peaceful town.

A really nice hostel to stay in, with a great big kitchen! This hostel has all the facilities you want as a traveller, cheap laundry, cloth lines to dry your clothes outside, good location, nice staff. The only thing I did not like about this hostel was that our 8 bed dorm had only a roof window, which was broken, so could not be opened..

Only stayed here for one night, but all in all it was a pleasant stay. Would be great if the rooms had more going for them....quite bland and uncomfortable. Other than that, quite good

The Purple Cow was excellent value for money. We stayed in a double with ensuite and it was perfect, down to the view of the lake from our window. My only complaint was that the TV in the room didn't work. After alerting staff, who were unable to help, they offered compensation, yet when we were checked out the next day by the same staff member, nothing was mentioned.

We were actually booked in the Purple Cow months ahead. They messed up our booking and didn't really help us to find something new to stay. We went around all day looking to find something to stay.

Purple Cow surely is the best hostel we've been at during our entire south island trip. The kitchen is AMAZING, staff is very friendly and helpful and so nice and clean! Shower in our dorm, nice beds, couldn't be better.
