Although clean and in a good location, this place had completely no character or atmosphere. Due to its size and the volume of people coming and going , no-one spoke to each other and I found it souless and very lonely. The icing on the cake was how unfriendly the staff were, it was like you had to have a qualificationin arrogance and rudeness just to get a job there. As a solo traveller I found this hostel awful and I would never stay there again.

The tumble driers need to be run 3 times before they dry your clothes.

In the room it was extremely hot at night time, therefore it was very difficult to sleep. The reception staff were not helpful when asking basic questions such as how and where to use a international phone card to call home in the hostel. The reception staff appeared unhappy to answer basic questions which was surprising considering they were working in a role that deals with customer service

Great place to stay. Recommend to all people who are looking for a quick place to get their food. Location is great and is well worth it.

This was definitely the cleanest, quietest and most modern of the hostels we stayed in on this trip. It's also a gorgeous layout, with a glass-roofed dining room in the centre courtyard. Facilities are really superior, except that it was a bit warm in the rooms due to lack of fans or A/C. The windows needed to open a bit further for circulation. We recommend YHA Wellington highly.

Staff members offered suggestions for site seeing, which we took, plus provided help getting our luggage to the shuttle bus. All with a smile and friendliness.

I stayed in YHA wellington for 10 nights. It is my first time staying in the hostel so it is hard to compare with others. But I really enjoyed the stay. The staffs were all nice and friendly. They clean up the whole building everyday. So everywhere in the hostel is very clean..The kitchen was also very clean.. but I wished the knives were sharper^^ It was really hard to cut vegetables~ Except that everything were so nice~!!

Excellent location in terms of the CDB, the waterfront, Te Papa and eating places and supermarket across the road. Staff are very helpful and seem to be always working with the guests.

On arrival, the young lady at the counter could have been friendlier eg smile- with a lot of people coming from overseas you need to make a good impression. The top bunk that I slept on was dusty. Just because I have a sensitivity to dust I had a running nose during the night. Otherwise, pretty good. And the supermarket is just across the road, with the organic grocer not far either.

Housekeeping lost my towel. Additional charge applies for non-YHA members (Hostelworld should really display the non-discounted price).

Would be great to have a little funkiness added to the halls and the rooms - a few pictures on the walls - some comfortable furniture. It is clean and safe and well stocked but it's missing something.

Kitchen looked wonderful - when empty. But oh for a decent cooking knife! And there became a shortage of cooking pots and pans, plates and cutlery at peak times despite being well stocked.

The room had a very bad painting smell, I tried to open the door and the window but the smell was there for two nights. I saw the other rooms on the same floor also had to open their doors to escape the smell, it was rather irritating!
